If oxy really cared about “zeroing in” we wouldn’t be forced to return to the office

Just saying, causing 10k employees to commute 2 hours a day is just adding gas to climate change. A lot of virtue signaling on Oxys part without backing up what they say.

@rbfa+1fu4uXGD you are entirely wrong. Wfh does not require what you state and only 5% is tangible and not by most of the workforce. That 5٪ can then visit the office and it's by only the very few that need to and not for all of there time rented to the company. It's mostly100٪ intangible work not at all requing in office attendance if your intelligent enough to operate a PC on your own with out IT holding your hand every step of the way.

Most of the work processes that do well under WFH are not really group oriented. These processes also involve very tangible tasks that can be easily defined. These are very different tasks from the tasks required to develop an oil field.

I also found a place that's offering the same. It's fully work from home you can even live in a different state and only if you need or want to you can go into the office but it's not required.

I left Oxy in 2021 and I’m in tech. My work hours are now 9-5 (bye bye 55 hour weeks), all benefits paid are paid for, I have unlimited PTO, quarterly bonuses, it’s fully remote, and I got a nice pay bump. I have friends in the tech space that echo my experience. Sorry, Oxy isn’t competitive in the slightest.

My group is doing great, maybe because we have a good boss. I think most of us like seeing each other and everyone has a good attitude. We had good collaboration in the past, and I expect and hope we will again going forward. I guess every group is different.

@2ngt+1fu4uXGD - He is right in my group as well. We come in and shut our doors to be able to unmask and stay to ourselves. When we do meet with each other it is in our offices with mask on usually. If all that keeps up there really is not a reason to go back the office. Either open up fully or let people work from home. Walking around wearing a mask should be an individual choice and not one Oxy mandates on people, especially since the CDC just lightened up.

A micromanager will be a micromanager whether working from home or at the office. Its not about that. People do engage more with others in-person and thats better for innovation, not when you pretend to be in a Teams meeting while “multi-tasking” watching TV etc. Do you even know a 60% of Google’s workforce will have a similar hybrid schedule than what we are being offerred? Last time I checked they are a tech business.

However, if the job you agreed to do requires a certain number of hours and for you to do as you are directed, you can voluntarily comply or find another job that allows you to work less and at your own direction, if you can. You comply with the requirements of the job, the job doesn’t comply with your requirements. Didn’t they teach you that in school?

Even with the wage cuts that were deep enough for us hands to have to budget even though you don’t think we know how to do math. I have been making sure your wages, including the raise and bonus you’re about to get(without ever putting on boots or even touching a damn hammer), is secure. Shut up already. Bottom line - tech salaries, climate change, fossil fuel, clean energy - none of that really matters to you, they’re just arguments. You want to WFH. It’s not a solution to anything except your dreams and desires. It’s what you want, and dog-on-it, you deserve it.

There will be no mass exodus from the company. The entire IT department is not going to leave. You WILL return to the office. Really, the sooner you can accept that, the happier you will wind up being. You did it before, you can do it again.

No, iqlx is funny as sh(t. It’s so true. Other industries “like tech” pay more, but WFH will keep us. The world is against fossil fuels, but WFH will save us. I hate being social, working with me team and my manager, but WFH will make it all better. No one wants to be in this industry and we’re all going to work for tech, but WFH will keep us. LMFAO. Just go somewhere else if you want to WFH 5 days per week.

@dmx. Production is up from 10 years ago bc we are looking at $100 oil and a bo-m (potentially for the last time). It’s called making hay while the sun still shines and who could blame companies like oxy for doing this, but with the way European Energy Companies like BP and Shell are moving towards renewables and away from investment in oil and gas to appease rich shareholders, there is definitely not a bright future for this industry. I question the intelligence of college grads studying petroleum engineering/geology when they won’t be able to make a career out of this dying profession. The rest of us 10-20 year experience employees are just hoping to get another 10-15 years out of the profession that are likely left.

Dude, get your head out of the sand. Do you really think the US is going to produce oil in 10 years? Not very much that’s for sure. Sure, oil itself is not going away in the next 30 years, but within this country we have climate change, activist board takeovers and a souring public opinion domestically on the industry (which will get worse when oil goes to $150 after the Ukraine crisis) there are probably 10 good years left in this industry in the United States. I work in IT and many of my colleagues have left for other industries (that not only pay better than oil and gas) but also allow greater flexibility. I can tell you are some try hard middle level manager, you don’t like that you are losing the narrative on covid/climate change. Luckily, things will continue to change that will benefit everyone who continues to work just by supply/demand

"Not that this industry has much of a future". US crude production is way up compared to 10 years ago. Estimates for 2022 and 2023 show even higher production. Yes, they'll be shutting the doors soon, so get your personal items when you return to the office. Oh, and my favorite is "Everyone in IT is leaving". Do you guys hear how crazy you sound?

People who think they need to be in the same building to conduct business in an increasing connected world via the internet need to retire like the dinosaurs they are. The more industries/companies that adopt permanent wfh will just cause more attrition for oil and gas who are overly conservative and resistant to change. Not that this industry has much of a future with less college grads entering the field.
