Amazon stack ranks.

Google for the NY Times article from a few years ago about their corporate culture.

To the nay sayers, google is free! Every single place where “performance based work culture” was implemented, teamwork collapsed! Toxicity grew. And morale was destroyed.

You want to see the future of GM? Go read Cruise reviews. We have Arden a promotion for destroying Cruise. It’s one of the worst software places to work in the country thanks to her policies.

But yeah, I admire you guys for your positive outlook.

I’ll second the other posters comment. Too many lazy, entitled folks that barely put any effort in so work gets piled on others. Hopefully this is their wake-up call.

There are so many that barely dial it in and others who don't even show up. How long do you think GM should put up with it and pay these people?
It has been going on for decades.
I say good riddance to these people.
I am tired of doing 2 or more people's jobs. Bring in some hard working, competent people!

No one wants to be at the bottom of the stack ranking and get laid off, or get bad raises and bonuses if they're not laid off.

And they're going to do what it takes not to be at the bottom.

If you care about teamwork and positive attitudes, get rid of stack ranking.

It's just a bad idea.

I’m preparing my boyfriend for it because while layoffs may not hit the assembly line yet-It’s coming. So use the good money to pay off debt and hold on tight. All these SUVs and Trucks sitting. The piper is on the way.

Yep, well said. It's very possible we'll have a very nasty downturn with this Tech/AI bubble and over leveraging of stimulus from the Federal Government and Fed. It won't be pretty for the unprepared and/or those that don't take personal responsibility for themselves IMO.

When the stock price is down 80% and the company is in the red, things are going to get real for the complainers at GM. They can deny it, down-vote it, put their fingers in their ears all they want but the economy runs in cycles and we are about to see the greatest economic bubble in history pop. It will be savage. Everyone will feel the pain and the world will be a very different place to live in. Restaurants, retail stores, you name it will disappear with the jobs. The amazing thing to watch right now is the investors finally understanding that AI isn't a salable product to anyone but corporations looking to cut staff. Most have diverted their holdings into AI stocks. When that shoe drops, the whole thing will unravel fast. It's already under way!

lol - no. Taking personal responsibility doesn’t make you a slave. It makes you a mature adult that is prepared for life’s ups and downs. Go ahead and plan on failure. Seems to me that’s what you liberals want with you ‘I’m a victim’ attitude. It’s no wonder companies don’t want to hire Gen Z’s or even some of the Millennials.

Is there any way to access previous CAP report evaluations? I want to have them printed just in case.
I have always gotten the highest marks but I'm a senior employee over 40.
If I get fired for performance, I will definitely look into getting a lawyer.
I would encourage you to do the same if you have a great record and are an older employee.
I'll ask again, in all sincerity, how do I access the previous evaluations?

There are no layoffs and there is no recession because I voted them down.
Things are going well.
I can go into the office when I want and my boss is nice to me.

Spoken like a boss who expects his employees to go against their own self interest in the stupid system the bosses created.

Always put the bosses first and yourself last, right?

Not true. GM has put out clarification via the media and managers can have folks on their team that all get good ratings. Imo people need to calm the f down and wait for the Q&A from HR. In the meantime read the Detroit Free Press article that covered the topic the other day.

Agreed. Too many people on here bi--h about things beyond their control rather than thinking about initiative they could take to make the situation better.

"So you definitely don't help anyone."
"They don't know who on the team is actually getting stuff done."

Both of you have the kind of negative attitude I don't want in my group.
If I knew who you were, you would both be flagged.

Bosses don't know who on their team does the actual work.

Quiet people are overlooked and ranked low, and extroverts and brown nosers go to the top of the heap.

Bosses know which people they like. They don't know who on the team is actually getting stuff done.

Stack ranking destroys teamwork.

You want your teammates to do a bad job so they get ranked below you.

So you definitely don't help anyone.

Here's the synopsis:

We are at the 2025 recession, ground zero. The 2008 era automotive mass layoffs started in the summer of 2006. Recessions hit automotive very early. The market is crashing now, as are layoffs at other companies. Automotive sales will start to tank and the GM stock will disintegrate.

The RTO was engineered so that an expected number quit sans severance/unemployment. That didn't pan out, so we get the first of many waves of layoffs. This stacked ranking is meant to demoralize you and have you very fearful and compliant.

Those who survived the 2008 recession don't even talk about it. It was that bad. You will see some nastiness in people, especially when people start disappearing. People will rat on each other and it will be unbearable as arbitrary rules are set in place. This as there are hiring freezes, suppliers are not getting paid and competitors are in the same situation. Restrooms, parking, office noise, etc will get far worse because the extreme fear and intimidation in the air will see everyone coming in. Keep your nose clean and stay the course. Like I said, it will get worse over the next 5 years. Don't give into the fear and avoid gossip. Your boss will be paying attention if you chat with troublemakers.

My best advice: show up, be kind and empathic to everyone, including people you don't like. Volunteer for extra work! Your boss will know that you are helpful and engaged. Never complain and above all, do your best work. If you do this, you will survive every layoff wave. And if you don't survive, you can't blame yourself.

Yep Boeing ranks people and they won’t think twice issuing PIP’s that are nearly impossible to pass so Boeing HR can fire the person and get out of paying them unemployment benefits.
That’s the way they roll at Boeing. Point figures and blame the other person. Stabbing you in the back is also common at Boeing even if you thought you trust the person.

These type of ranking systems depend on the social status of the EGM (Engineering Group Manager). I had a socially awkward EGM who we called "waterboy". The entire group got low raises and was targeted by bigger, stronger, and more capable EGMs as the feed stock for the last layoff round. Think of how the hierarchy works in high school. It is the same here.

Did you just seriously include Boeing?
Are their 2 astronauts still "LOST IN SPACE" after 2 months?

Are you including the overpaid "upper" management and the goons on wall street too. They appear to be awfully skilled at getting bailouts when they fu-k up.

i seriously doubt folks are upset because they will have to "put in some effort". u could have a team of rockstars and yet now someone has to be ranked negatively, no matter they may be putting in more effort than the highest ranked member of another team.
