BP Allowing Employees to WFH 2 Days A Week Permanently

https://www.rigzone.com/news/bp_work_model_to_affect_roughly_25000_employees-14-mar-2021-164865-article/

I hope OXY follows suit. Otherwise everyone at OXY is going to try and leave and go to more flexible companies like BP. To my generation, this flexibility is huge.

@1eoq+19ShOTY4 just someone who doesn't understand technology and hates change even if it's for progress. These kinds of people may bring experience but no innovation at all for the company. They're also extremely toxic and closed minded.

Honestly who is this person who keeps saying wfh people have no work ethic and a bad attitude? What are they basing this on? Can you provide some examples of what you are dealing with that leads you to believe this?? I am at a loss as to why they are so angry and continuing to get on this soapbox with no real stories or info on why they think we are all jacking off. Is there work that used to get done that isn’t getting done now and it’s impacting you? Can you give an example? Are you waiting on engineering drawings that aren’t getting done? Are you waiting on invoices to get approved? What has happened?

Basically it is not a choice in the end. Either come in when they tell you, quit, or get fired. Maybe if OSHA comes out with what the admin wants they might push it out six months, but then people are not listening to the admin anyway. I would be happy for two days a week in the office and keep the 9/80 schedule, but if I keep working I will do as I am told because I don't own the company nor am I in a union.

If you don’t want to be part of an organization then quit. See if you can match your salary elsewhere. Your parents would be very disappointed in you if you quit because someone actually requested that you show up 5 days a week for work. Grow up.

Speak for yourself, old man. I can get just as much done via teams that I can get done in the office. You are clearly one of those managers that likes to micromanage if you need to be in a physical office to get stuff done. Retire already I guarantee you are overpaid dinosaur:

Wtf. You see a good thing for yourselves for 12 months and all of a sudden you need the corporate world to adopt it for ever? You are just really crazy in the head. Do you think you are that valuable?
I would hire someone who says heck yes I will come into the office over you wfh people. It is all about work ethic and attitude my friend. It is not about you it is about the company.

So it has nothing to do with how many floors you have in the building. It will just be like a few years ago. The difference is that we would wash our hands more to avoid the cold and the flu. Hopefully we can get back to being like the human race again.

Why would we have elevator rules once COVID is over. After covid is over is what people are talking about. After covid there will hopefully be no masks in the US and people will go about their business as before.

How many stories is the BP building here that is doing this? GW5 is 31 stories and elevators packed all the time, it would be a zoo with all the rules of 4 to an elevator, precautions, etc. i guess there should be rotations of people, WFH 3-4 days week. Office 1-2 days. Rotate teams.

Companies like BP are being manipulated by an immature element of the workforce. They should not bow down to these demands of the immature and inexperienced because the labor market can definitely supply qualified people who actually want to be in at the office. Said another way. Get on board with the office environment 9/80 or leave the company.

Can confirm that folks will jump from the BP ship because of this. Oxy should not follow in their steps

Maybe they should take the fridays off away like they have done in the past and let you work 8 hours a day in the office for 5 days a week. Let’s see you work this for about 6 months. After that you would be begging to get your 9/80 back with no WFH.

At home you basically end up working more hours, so losing that Friday off would be tough, but the trade off might be worth it. If you live a long way from the office it might work for the better. Hate to lose my every other Friday golf day.

They lost their 9/80 as a result of this wfh policy. It isn’t all good

Besides who cares about attracting your types. All you need is a core group of highly motifated skilled people with great managerial skills and some consultants to do the technical work.

To avoid this the company could just pay a few dollars more. WFH is giving in to the whiners of society who want an extended childhood in the real adult world? Grow up everyone.
