While some are super busy, others do almost nothing, because that's how the work is distributed around here.

More busy than ever, Not going to lie it's true if you are good at your job you do everything.....almost want to leave to just stick it to the man.
Trust me on this, “I calls ’em like I sees ’em”. I try not to engage in non-value add stuff - and there is lots of it. Often enough it does not even pass the logical check for being a well posed question, or requested by an org that should do that task themselves.
Previous post… This is nothing new. A few carry the many. Need to be visible and have a benefactor that will support you in the food chain. If you do not differentiate yourself, you will not be noticed. Sorry it’s a science fair , but it is. The noticed move up.
If you are new to Oxy, here, 80% of the work gets done by 20% of the people. Too many useless levels of middle managers, techs without accountability, multiple initiatives and special sub-team distractions and an urgency for everything thats not relevant contributes to the unbalance. Quiet, hard working, graded 3 employees get things done here without too much recognition. Only time will tell, but I get the feeling we are due for a reorg
Always wonder what you consider non value add work. I have to sit down with the young staff and justify to them that the work assigned has value (for them and the company). For all the time we spend discussing what is fair, it is hard to believe we can make any money. Get released from your job and you will have lots of time for your personal ventures...
I am seeing some pushy peers pawning off some random non-value add work to others - then these folk are overworked.
If you ring fence yourself from non-value add BS - the work/life balance is great!
PS... This isn't an Oxy thing. There are always doers and laggards in every company I've worked in. The trick is to be noticed by your peers, boss and his management. At the end of the day ( never when you want closure...), most of the inequity is removed (firings, layoffs, quitting). You have you lean on your professional ethics and standards, not worry about the loafers and get your job done.
Can we stop the complaining about full-time WFH. It is not going to change, so live with it or find somewhere else to work. Complaining on this site dows nothing. Go asked your manager if they will make an exception for you and then you can be the one loner in the group working from home. When things get tough in the industry you will be the first to go. WFH was nice, and I enjoyed it as well, but I don't own Oxy and just work here. All the complaining will end up getting us all back in the office full-time, so please appreciate what you have or move on. In a four week period you have to come into the office 12 times, and work from home 6 times with every other friday off. In a 30 day month you are off the other 12 says.
40 years in the business. Life isn’t fair. You are a highly paid professional, staying busy and doing good work goes along way to staying employed. You have ample time to discuss this formally with your manager and document your effort in the yearly performance review.
Declining since hybrid instead of full-time wfh.
...and those of us that are super busy are not receiving equal monetary compensation increases fast enough! On top of that full time work from home has been taken away from us!
This is normal...Welcome to the jungle. Downturns are usually a good time to jettison the ballast.
You need more project reviews all the way down to the lowest level to spot the workers from the non-workers. Then it is up to management to take appropriate action on which employees stay and which go. People, make sure you document all work so you are counted as a productive worker when the axe falls later this year.
