Don’t blame you

I did my second interview with citi and they told me I did great and would meet the team in the next stage. After not hearing from them for about 3 weeks, I reached out to the hr who said there was not reason to be scared as I was in line for the next interview and that I did well in the last. Two weeks later, they sent me an email saying the position is no longer available as they have given an offer to another. That’s the most cruel thing to do. Would never apply with them again

Hahaha ghosted because of sense of entitlement and poor attitude? I think my attitude got me through multiple rounds of interviews to an offer. No one is entitled to anything. But when a company gives a range then asks if you would take a lower position with a lower range and you agree then you get an offer that's lower than what was spoken about, that is on the company not the applicant.

You don't ghost people in general. It's unprofessional and makes your company look like garbage.

You were ghosted because of your poor attitude and sense of entitlement.

Yeah they ghosted the eff out of me after offering 20k less than their normal range for no reason... Waste of time. Someone needs to tag these thread's to their head of HR.

It’s very very simple. There’s nothing to ponder over.

1. ) If they don’t meet your expected salary (don’t factor in the promise of a bonus), then walk away and look elsewhere.
2. ) If they drag their feet and take too long, look elsewhere while you wait on Citi to make an offer. If you run into something that’s willing to meet your requirements, then take it. If citi contacts you with an offer, tell them too late, you’ve accepted another offer.

I'm definitely not desperate, I haven't reached out to the hiring manager in well over a month and I've gone on about my life, there are too many available positions for Citi to act as though I can't go elsewhere.

If I do get an offer and decide to join, I'll make sure I get my money up front via salary vs thinking I'll get decent raises and bonuses though.

I will say that years ago I was in the same position with a competitor who had decided I was the candidate, but didn't have clearance to make an offer. This went on for 6-8 weeks, but HR was in constant contact with me and they ended up offering more money that I had initially requested and even increased the offer after I asked for more.

It’s a well crafted, well practiced tactic of endurance to wear you down. To make you 100% vested in time, effort, asking you to jump from hoop to hoop. By doing this, it makes you reach and strive for the job. They then make an offer much lower and place it just out of reach. All of this in hopes that you’re worn down enough and have strived hard enough to overlook the pay difference. If you take what they’ve offered here’s how it’ll play out.

You’ll be brought onto the team. You won’t be given any money for review or bonus and be told “you have to be here a full year first”. Another year will go by and you’ll be told “here’s a little something, to get more you’ll need to prove yourself first to get more”. You’ll counter will a list of all the things that you’ve done but will be told “others have proven themselves longer so that get more than you”.

Another year or two will go by and you’ll reflect on this post and realize that you’ve been manipulated by them. You’ll sigh and start looking for a job elsewhere. Just look at the facts even now. You’ve made it no secret as to how much you want but they are here now playing games. Look at this as a preview of things to come if you hire on.

I guess this is par for the course. If I hear anything from Citi I'll listen and see what they have to offer.

Why bother waiting, I’d just move on to another company.

Gosh. Don't I know it. I interviewed with them in November. Had to keep following up. The hiring manager said I interviewed well, but wanted me to meet with another group. That didn't happen until January. Met with them, and it went well. Didn't hear back from them until March that they wanted to make an offer. I thought they went with someone else.
I would agree that follow ups go ignored.

Interviews are definitely bizarre. I interviewed for a gig almost six weeks ago in a two day panel with 8 different folks. I sent follow up emails and even follow up questions (as the hiring team said they would answer). No response at all. I assumed I had been ghosted or the position was closed.

Then I received a random email stating the hiring team loves me and wants me to interview for another position. It went well though I was a bit confused with no context on the position. I reached back out to the recruiter for info on how it went and was ignored again for about a week. I finally on a whim directly called the recruiter and they are now making me an offer. I love the team and what they do but the lines of communication could definitely be better.

I don't at all mean to discount what you're saying, obviously I don't work at Citi. I have no idea what raises and bonuses are like there (for comparison sake my bonus can total up to 30% of my salary, but this amount is taxed more heavily than a normal salary), but former colleagues of mine have told me they've gotten salary bumps of 30%+ moving to Citi. It would take something along those lines for me to make a jump as I'm now pretty happy in my new role.

Are raises and bonuses attributable to what department you work in as well as job function?

Of course it's a large bank/ publicly owned company, so they won't increase pay if they don't have to i.e. matching an outside offer. Sometimes it's baffling, but that's the way companies operate these days.

Irregardless, looking at some of the posts for Citi on this chat, I'm not 100% sold on working there.

I work at Citi and have for 10 years. The pay is NOT competitive, nor are the raises or bonuses. How do I know this, that’s easy. We can’t find the people we need for the salary that’s offered. Citi often offers and this is where it gets really nuts, the same pay or a few K more, that’s it. No one will leave the devil they know for the same pay or even a little bit more. The raises are awful if you are in what’s called a BAU (business as usual) role. If you make the company money, raises and bonuses are a little bit more but not as much as what’s offered by other companies. How do I know this, again easy, I have friends at other companies who do the same role as either myself or other colleagues in different roles. A comparison of pay shows that Citi is behind. On the comment of people staying and not leaving, well that’s just plain not true. Attrition is at an all time high and we can’t backfill because of the previous statement of not offering competitive pay.

Bottom line is this….if you hire in new talent at a higher salary as the current employees, that in itself tells you that you are behind on the salary curve and in effect are punishing your employees for being loyal by not paying them more.

I have a few friends and former colleagues who work at Citi and I've heard nothing but good things to the point that no one leaves or looks to leave (I realize it's a large bank and they're all pretty cr---y by those standards, but Citi seems to offer a decent workspace).

In my specific niche area of finance, Citi is quite competitive as far as actual salary goes, total compensation I'm not sure as I don't know what bonuses look like. The higher salary does come with additional responsibilities compared to the competitors though.

Hiring process is insane here. It's unbelievable how disconnected they are. Especially the third parties like whitecrow that help them with recruiting. But even their internal HR are odd as $#it.

I got an offer for 20k less than the 3rd party recruiter told me during our discussion. And mind you the recruiter asked if I would go for a lower level position than initially interviewing for. When we discussed this I was adamant about the salary expectations to leave my current job. She went back to Citi HR and confirmed that the range would be fine.

Finally got offer and it was the weirdest call. It felt like some predatory home flipper calling me to tell me very abruptly the good and bad news and I'm like wait WTF we agreed on 20k more....he quickly brushed it off saying oh this just landed on my desk I have no idea and this is all I have approval for.

I have yet to hear back from them. I doubt I'll move after this experience.

I could see it I guess if Citi was so awesomely great to work at that its worth the effort, but its not. Citi is not competitive at all in pay, bonuses, raises, benefits, its average. No better, no worse in these areas. I can see why people don’t wait around for an answer, they move on.

I remember a time my boss had to go over HRs to hire people because of how slow the process was, we were losing candidates in the middle of the sloooow interview process because they would just take the job from the other company

What makes you think that overall management inside the company is any better?
