Any know if they are approving mental health time off? I heard we can take 2 weeks completely independent of sick time.

I lost a family member to violent crime. I had a therapist who wrote a great letter to Sedgwick. Also completed a depression score worksheet with my physician. I was engaged in therapy for quite some time as I literally could not work. Since I did invest in disability insurance I was able to focus on my and my family and did not have to work for many months. It was legitimate and my therapist wrote a compelling letter and so it all worked out.
During this time I would say that despite all the "people first" rhetoric form Schwab, I was not supported by many of my peers not my manager. It was really on me to take care of me. So I did.
Yes but please speak to your manager if you’re that soft.
Sedgwick is horrible. They gave me a hard time on a well documented need for medical leave.
They can su-k it.
@1dfn+1qe7N0PY mental illness is a serious health problem, however, you will need a documented disability in order to received FMLA. Meaning, Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, Mood disorder—all with documented doctors notes and usually medication to treat. Unfortunately, “stress” is not a good enough reason to take off unless that stress is compounded by a serious illness.
To get disability payments and/or FMLA, your condition needs to be “bad” enough that you regularly see a doctor for it, have had or are going to have extensive treatment, and needs to be qualified as a disability.
I do wish that laws would change so the average worker could gain more time away from work, but I also don’t think we need to diminish the illnesses of those who are currently on leave. A lot of people are under the assumption you can go on leave for feeling stressed or blue, but if someone is on leave or has FMLA, it is typically because they have a well documented disability. The assumption it can be used for stress increases the stigma of those who have to use it.
The first answer here is spot on. I’ve had a few different Managers and Directors who were just wonderfully supportive and even told me that as long as the work is covered and gets done when I need, I can take mental health days. One of them said if possible to schedule regular time off every 4-6 weeks and see if that helps (it did for me). But I had one manager who was just not understanding at all even when the work got done. So it’s a toss up but most likely with Sr Managers and Directors, the majority I’ve come across are very supportive.
With Sedgwick, just make sure you have all your documentation squared away and well organized. I got a medical accommodation while working at Schwab, but have heard of people getting turned down.
I tried, called Sedgewick, they said has to be a serious health issue, as in not mental health (yes, I know mental health is serious), unless you go through all kinds of doctors approvals and such. Please let us know how to get it and who it goes through.
You could get short term disability for up to 6 months!
Yes. It is a separate program similar to short-term disability. It isn’t as if you can schedule when needed.
That said, consider the benefits. Most take it and have no backlash. But it is possible, and it happens, that peers and managers will not respect the use.
