Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

2 years since the Great APC Resignation

It’s been 2 years since most of the APC crowd left due to the COC. As one of those, I’m interested in returning once my 24 months is up.

How welcome would those who left on good terms be? Happy, Indifferent, or Hostile since they were gone when the dumpster fire was raging.

I did my best not to burn any bridges and I don’t hate my current job but I’d be interested in returning if there was the right opportunity.

I would welcome them back as well and don't care how much they stuffed in their bank accounts. There were many good workers at APC that left, and we would of had a smoother transition if they had stayed, but you can't blame them for leaving. I am sure many wish they would have stayed once the pandemic hit. Oxy has really taken care of us all during the pandemic, so if nothing else that should buy some loyalty towards Oxy. At least it does for me. If L-APC wants to come back I would welcome them back as long as they were good workers. I know of two positions right now I could use the experience and L-APC background, but for now we can't hire back. Thing is if they come back they need to wipe the slate clean and realize this is not Anadarko. Come in like you are starting a new job. Good luck.

As L-APC who was not offered or even had the chance at severance, it really bothers me to see people who got the severance complain on the “friends of Anadarko” page about this and that. Y’all shut up! You got a HUGE payout. For reference, most were in the $100-600K range (if not more) which is insane. There is a sizable portion of us who are bitter we didn’t get a chance to severance because most would have taken it. A lot of us are waiting until Aug 2022 (when our severance opportunity completely ends - we’re protected until then) and evaluate what’s out there. If not sooner after the bonus pays out in March. OXY better be coming in with sizable merit raises and good bonuses to keep a lot of us.

Would I be mad if an L-APCer returns? Not really but low key jealous.

There is also much work that doesn’t need to be done at all. Get back to the basics of a low cost producer.

As far as I can tell OXY is not in hiring mode. A number of people have left recently and no chance of replacing them. The attitude is dump the work on everyone else. Everyone is just buried with work.

"APC GoM (seems like a separate company) is hiring contractors. Maybe that way. Full time, not likely."

Right, I saw some new hires in the tower recently, not sure if these are full time or contractors. Minimal replenishment, but it does seem to be happening.

To the OP, see if you can throw your hat in the ring.

  1. The core values are always for show anyway, just like mission statements.
  2. When you don’t sell gasoline and products there is minimal need to take care of the community.
  3. The previous company culture and pride was altered by venturing into unconventional and also by the merger.
  4. Distant feeling executives, this perception comes with a much larger company and Covid had a big impact on the organization.
  5. . Great HR people, but since when has the HR role not been mainly for the company.
  6. . This is a good opportunity for new leaders to step up and build the passion and pride.

No value placed on community service? Say it ain’t so! I’m quitting tomorrow.

The last poster is a sad example of someone who won’t take the bull by the horns and find another opportunity. He’d rather just complain than take the risk of finding a new job somewhere that has the same values that he has. So sad.

Specific examples for clarity:

  • Oxy has core values, but they aren’t practiced like Anadarko’s were. (For the most part)
  • No value placed on community service or outreach like APC had. They don’t donate to things that APC did, no volunteer events, no United way events, etc.
  • No common culture yet. No pride in Oxy, bc there has been nothing shown or done to create pride in this new supposedly combined organization.
  • Very distant-feeling executive level
  • Really inept HR (good people but just not good for employees)
  • A lot of the best leaders and ICs from APC are gone and with them a lot of their passion and drive

What @5yla+ means is he/she isn’t happy therefore no one can be. On this site that’s interpreted as a happy employee is either HR or a boomer that needs to quit so that some unhappy employee can get promoted. Let the insults begin now.

I don’t recommend returning. Anadarko wasn’t perfect but it was better than Oxy is. You would not be returning to what you remember.

I left APC shortly after the Kerr McGee merger for a competitor downtown. Hated the commute from the Woodlands and realized that I have left a pretty solid company. Did not burn bridges and was offered a position to return a year later. It may have affected my promotability early on but opportunities were given to me and life goes on. In my experience, returning should not be problematic.

APC GoM (seems like a separate company) is hiring contractors. Maybe that way. Full time, not likely.

Does anyone care how the APC people who stayed feel. It is management’s opinion of your ethics and work output that will open the door for your return.

That can be tough. They might view you jumped the ship and did not stick it out. I would be more worried about how the APC that stayed would feel. Many had to stick it out and wanted to leave. But you can only try.

Perhaps you don’t know what “strikes a nerve” means? It’s really not applicable here.

Strike a nerve again, did I @1czi? Never takes much with your kind.

Oxy doesn't hire anyone with any value anyway. We have civil engineers with road construction backgrounds working as FEs. How desperate is that?
