Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

2022 is the time to start a union in ET!

It’s time to form a union for ET employees. We are short handed, need more vacation, and more employer contributions to our benefits. They’ve gotten rid of the pension plan in light of record profits. Our IT salaries are low compared to the large cities we live in. Let’s do this!

who in their right mind thinks that we need a union in ET?? Software Engineers and really anyone in IT do NOT need unions. They do very well without. the starting salary for devs at SF is higher than most people in Claims and underwriting that have been with the company for decades.

@1cja+1eAuPFfe - I never did any mandatory OT in Claims but back in the day we had mandatory OT in underwriting that went on for nearly 3 years. Ive been with the company for 20 years now so remembering exactly when it was escapes me but it was probably from around 2011-2014 or so that we had to do a minimum of 8 OT hours every paycheck. It was terrible. Lets hope your mandatory OT ends soon.

@1cje you realize unions charge dues AND have administrative costs. In fact, I’d say the union leaders will gladly take your money while you are stuck with their shoddy representation as they get rich off your dues. The grass is not greener on the other side. Pick your poison, in other words. State Farm would choose to use off-shore workers over your union so you’ll be out of a job. Yeah, go for it! (In case you can’t tell, my vote is a NO for union representation)

How To Start a Union At Your Workplace in 7 Steps
Step 1: Talk to Your Coworkers.
Step 2: Talk to a Union Organizer.
Step 3: Start a Committee.
Step 4: Know Your Rights.
Step 5: Sign Union Support Cards.
Step 6: Vote!
Step 7: Negotiate Your Contract.
Joining with your colleagues in a union at your workplace offers many benefits. On the job, your union brings together the collective strength of you and your co-workers to insure meaningful negotiations with management for an equitable contract. Negotiations are not limited to only wages and salaries, but can also include staffing and overtime, safety and health, cost of living raises, provisions for continuing education and professional development, adequate pensions, vacations, equitable promotion systems and transfer policies, and a workable grievance system. Through your union, you and your co-workers oversee carrying out the provisions of the contract.
The claims department needs to unionize too. We’ve been on mandatory OT for months now. We have been essentially on 6 day work weeks with no end in sight. Every time we get close to the end date of the mandatory OT they push it out another month or two

Yes, look at what unions did for GM and Detroit! There’s no way that Tippy will fold and use cheap offshore employees!

You are only thinking pay and vacation. Medical becomes negotiable, disability becomes negotiable, 401 K becomes negotiable, existing pension becomes negotiable . You are very naive if you think things only get better with a pension. Enjoy that oven front view in b’ton.

Are you kidding me? You’re excuse for not starting a union is that every benefit becomes negotiable? That’s the point of a union you fu----g id--t. Right now we are stuck with small a-s merit raises because employees can’t negotiate!!! You must be from HR and think the employees are d-mb as sh-t.

Only thing you have to lose are your benefits and future pay adjustments. Under a union every benefit becomes negotiable. And if you think unions prevail in the majority of the negotiations there is some ocean front property for you in B’ton.

SF employees didn't need a Union prior to Tippy taking over; now the employees have nothing to lose.

They have NOT gotten rid of the pension plan. If you qualified for it you still have it. It was only changed for new hires. Stop spreading lies and also stop trying to unionize. It’s pathetic and would hurt employees more in the long term. Educate yourself.

I've heard a lot of talk about unions on this board. Thankfully you people are too lazy to get off your supersized duffs and circulate petitions.

I'm looking forward to an even higher bonus in '22. Life is great.
