Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

HCL & Extreme Networks

I wonder how well versed HCL Network people are on Extreme Networks syntax? "Lets get rid of Cisco switches and replace them with Extreme switches". Guaranteed the guys coming in have zero background or experience with this infrastructure. ASC and HCL are banking one everybody sticking around to keep their network up and running............and when they don't, the wheels will come off the wagon. It will be a spectacular clusterfuck

We in FS are exhausted from being everyone's errand boy. We've learned HCL is going to merge telecom and network in FS...but they're firing everyone on those teams. They only kept on 1 or 2 people total combined from those teams. We fully admit we have limited telecom and networking knowledge (and we're already so busy with our actual job duties and our short staff we don't know how we can do all this additional stuff now...) and we don't know how we will be able to support all of this.

@1sxxj+1cwm00gJ - FS was my boots on the ground after Asc Tech laid off all the data center operations folks. Nothing against FS but what a joke! How was I supposed to tell them what I needed them to do on equipment I had never laid eyes on before? That was one of the biggest reasons I was very happy to be gone from that place!

The HCL folks I helped train had limited knowledge and experience (what they did know was from Cisco books.) Sucks for them because my ministry was mostly Extreme. Should be interesting, the FS techs on the ground also have an extremely limited knowledge of networking.

@1buq+1cwm00gJ I don't know about "a lot", my entire FS team plans on leaving. So, our facilities will be stuck with the know-nothings HCL hires in the IT department. A lot of FS people are pi---d and they're making exit plans now. I estimate their retention of current employees to be less than 50% in FS across the board. FS has a lot of institutional knowledge and a lot of departments rely on us to do their onsite grunt work.

It's going to be a massive sh!tshow of epic proportions once we're gone. I hope it was worth it to them to sc--w us like this.

And none of us are ever coming back to Ascension.

@1kqj+1cwm00gJ - This cr-p is why I left corporate America and went to work for a "Christian Organization." Ascension Values are no better than corporate America's values.

I am the primary network engineer at our 'ministry' and I will not be going to HCL.

I have spent 1/3 of my life here and this is how they repay it. No surprise really, it is the new norm. I'll stay on with AT through Nov 19th to get my "retention bonus" and severance and will spend the rest of the year interviewing with prospective employers.

May they get everything they deserve.

People will go to HCL. A lot will. But what they don't understand is that they will be used for 6 months to train the HCL (overseas) employees the bare minimum of what they need to know. Once they are somewhat up to speed, the former Ascension employees will either be moved to another account or laid off. So, I implore you all to look for new jobs.

Clueless leadership doesn't value long term knowledge of existing employees. So the coming months should be interesting as long time staff leave and take all that knowledge right out the door. I've got my popcorn ready to watch it all go down.
