Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Wake Up

Please wake up!! Everyone who prays for a throwback to when Nielsen cared about the company, much less about the individuals who bolstered that effort, need a reality check. Nielsen has been bought out by a private equity firm, whose aim (like all private equity pirates who identify potential targets) is to cut losses and create profitability, then sell off yet again for a profit to those investors. If you/your department calculate positively into that equation, then you may be spared as ‘useful’ in the meantime. For all those who wax nostalgic about Nielsen: Stop!! This is not your Father’s Nielsen! Protect yourselves (and family)…

You are correct it is foolish to wish for a return to the old days. Still all companies have to make a reasonable effort in treating employees with fair and safe working conditions. Nielsen is a federal contractor they do not only earn revenue from privately held or public companies. Any corporation with a federal contract has to meet FAIR LABOR STANDARDS act.

Yea, it's sad. When I got to Nielsen a couple of decades ago I was overwhelmed with how much of a family, caring, encouraging environment it was. I had already been in the "TV" biz for a few years by that point and had dealt with all types of back stabbing snakes at other companies I worked for, so it was such a pleasant change of pace to work at a place that seemed to care. Sure, was I underpaid? He-l yea. But damn, we used to go to some great lunches/dinners/business trips all over the country for bonding. I even used to go to my "bosses" homes around the holidays. Great times, great people. But yea, that changed when Calhoun and the other corporate pirates came over from GE after PE bought out Nielsen around 2006. Was never the same. But please keep in mind in 2023, there are very few if any companies like the old Nielsen. Those days are long gone on corp. America. Just accept it.

The investors and C level execs care about repackaging and reselling Nielsen. The employees; customers; products;services don't matter.

This is a great message. The Nielsen we used to know is truly gone. All that is left is just the bones of a few caring employees who hope things will improve, but we all know the reality. Most of the work will eventually be outsourced to another cheaper company or other countries. Look out for your family and go out and find a job with a company that cares about its employees and not profit margins. Good luck to all those at Nielsen. I was there for 25 years and found work in another company that cares.

There is life after Nielsen!
