Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

Possibly 450 lost jobs

Raytheon Technologies is cutting as many as 450 jobs in Connecticut this week amid the continuing slump in air travel, the majority of them at its Pratt & Whitney facility in East Hartford that sells jet engines.

A Pratt & Whitney spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that the jet engine manufacturer is cutting salaried worker jobs, without specifying a number. East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc indicated her office was told about 380 Pratt & Whitney workers in her city will lose their jobs, along with nearly 75 more people at other Connecticut facilities.

Wow, thanks for supporting @1bbw+17qmpMxz arguments. Now all of those negative marks I received earlier should reverse course. It's nice to be correct once in a while.

Tax abatements for ___ amount of years if they bring so many jobs to NC.

Why do you think BMW built their plant in SC.... ?
Tax abatements from the state and city, no unions to deal with and a workforce they know will not walk off the job.

Boeing consolidating entire 787 assembly plant in Washington state to SC. It was just a matter of time.

How can they layoff all these people and then turn around and spend all this money on a new plant? Perhaps they used all those salaries to pay for the new plant?

Once again I'm not surprised. Even before the merger, Raytheon was slowly moving manufacturing jobs to Texas, Forest Mississippi, and Huntsville Alabama. Now that it's Raytech it would be of no surprise if heritage UTC manufacturing jobs made their way down there too. Lower wages, less predominance of unions, and tax advantages. If I recall correctly, a lot of commercial aircraft jobs are now in the Carolinas?
