If I am offered either VSP or EOI, as a person ready to retire, what are the drawbacks Of taking advantage of VSP or EOI, if there are any?

Can younger, mid-career, employees do the EOI and get VSP or is there an age / years of service threshold?

Bummed about all the seasoned older employees that will use the VSP to leave the company - all that knowledge out the door with them. I don’t blame them for taking the package (I would), just wonder what will be left behind when all is said and done.

Where’s the ignorance @2jpq? Maybe you can offer up a pearl of wisdom or a simple opinion instead of a one worded response like a short minded fool.

@1ags makes a good point, but if you’re ready and able to retire well, @1xrn makes perfect sense too.

More details are required to evaluate your particular situation, everyone's is different. A big factor is age and health insurance. If you choose the package too early, you may have to spend more on health insurance/care than you gained with the package. Also, if you enjoy your job and it's easy for you, that makes a big difference.

As a person willing, ready and able to retire, there’s no drawbacks to taking the volunteer severance package or EOI. It’s all gravy. Go for it.
