Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Here’s my dilemma

When I hired on with BBB it was PT. I already had a part time job somewhere else and was required to bring in my schedule so the manager could work around it. Well now my manager is telling me that I have to prioritize BBB over my other job (which pays more). Can he terminate me if I refuse? If I am given a conflicting schedule can I be terminated for not working it - especially when I made it clear that my other job took priority?

This thread amuses me. Do you really think anyone on this board know the answer? Someone posted about Sears..yet did not provide a source when asked. Many "tough" responses..ie; stand up to them, let them fire you, etc.For what? A part time job? The company makes the rules not you. I am curious..you have two part time jobs..why not take one full time? Then your problem would be solved.

This is really simple, manager gives you a hard time about availability, tell them straight up if BBBY pays you more than the other job you’ll make yourself more available. Make sure you have your hours of availability posted in The Force program ( I’m guessing they’re still using that?) so they can’t schedule you when your not. Don’t be afraid to walk away from this company: 1. It’s only a paycheck 2. There’s no career future with BBBY anyway unless your a top stockholder. Seriously, your manager is a dead person walking, and they need you more than you need them. That’s just the truth of the situation.

Here’s another suggestion: QUIT!!

If we aren’t willing to work with you and the other job pays more....I wouldn’t stay.

Please provide a link for the Sears employee story. Never heard of such a thing. If you want a Part Time job with flexibility do jot work retail. Think about it..us it fair for your coworkers to have to work around YOUR schedule? No..its not

@1aen is correct. They tried the same thing at Sears and the employees did what @1aen said to do and it worked. They got unemployment for the hours.

Since return from pandemic shutdown, all retail organizations want/require open availability. How in the world do we expect our country and businesses to reopen fully, and middle to lower level population still survive? The business owners operate with mostly part timers, (to the businesses benefit in they pay $0 benefits), even pre Covid19. Our country needs regulation regarding part time employees and scheduling requirements. Open availability requirement for one as a part timer essentially puts that employee out of an additional, even 2 additional opportunities to bring in a living wage and support himself/herself or family. Wrong on ALL accounts.

Make them fire you then apply for unemployment to cover the lost hours.

Push back hard. I'm FT and was told I had to have complete open availability, I told them to show me in writing where it said that. Do not let them push you around.

Well based on the new HR you would probably have to never show up again to be terminated. If your a SM they will fire you just because if your an hourly they seem to think they need an entire file to get rid of you. We have a supervisor in our store that had zero leadership abilities calls in a minimum of once a week........still there. Now everyone is doing what she does and gives zero cares about it.
