I just heard that remote workers in the Twin Cities now have to RTO in September. Does anyone know anything about this?

Yup. Better come in with a smile for 8 hours a day or you will be first to be RIF in Q4
@b4 check your profile, it tells you if you are remote or other
@3db Thank you for sharing this.
In a people leader meeting this AM was told there has been zero discussion or decision made about remote workers.
Rules for thee and not for me
Total BS! Take a look at all the director to executives level positions that are now are listed as virtual in Outlook. The only way this is going to work is for everyone to return to office. No exceptions.
They can track the location of your laptop. So if you log on at your house, they will know.
How is in office being tracked? By the day or the hour. We are adults. If it is like it was prior to the ‘vid, than it’s ok. But tracking hourly is quite insulting.
@at 9/2 is in the email from Geoff and in his all employments mtg.
@b3 incorrect. 90 miles is not the distance.
@mw it’s not about actually going into an office. It’s about excomm and their condescending attitude and complete lack of care for employees.
@bs but remember, you can take a break in the middle of they day so you don’t overdo it! That’s what the gal on our RTO call said. If they let us be adults, I am ok with it. I’m betting they are tracking by the hour tho.
With that logic, I guess the engineering and IT jobs that we outsourced should come back to Twin Cities too.
@156 When did the email come out? Was it the one about the flex/hybrid workers or is there a new email about remote workers?
@f5 Local remote. There's an email about it that explains.
Y’all need to stop bi--hing and come to work. Alternative options are much easier, just resign and stay home as you prefer.
Come to office and work now or quit - choices are available and nobody is forcing you not to quit.
Bi--hes Karen, sick of you.
You are absolutely correct. What’s even more upsetting is ExCom raise the KPI to make it even harder to get 100% MIP. How can you get zero complaints when you outsource everything?
GM and his buddies are going to bail in their golden parachute worth millions of dollars. Meanwhile, we will be left behind either picking up the pieces or applying for unemployment.
it's never about in-person collaboration, never about put patient first. Medtronic simply wants to have better looking balance sheet in next few quarters. Attrition will be high, quality will be low but who cares. Those problems hopefully won't explode during GM's term here.
@ez local remote or all remote employees?
Remote workers will be back in the office by January 1.
No, nothing official, speculation only.
Local remote workers. Say you're a twin cities employee that took a job in Surgical or Spinal, you've been WFH since, now they want you in a TC office, thats part of the Sept push. But these workers have zero teammates in the twin cities, no office space to claim or frequent - its like coming into a WeWork space. its crazy and insulting.
Exactly this. Majority of my team was replaced with Indian engineers. So, I have to drive to the office extreme early to hop on a teams call with them.
@b5 If this is all true, it is clearly an effort to drive remote workers to resign so they can hire replacements in low cost locations, which is likely the reason behind the hard stance on RTO to begin with.
What about people in other states who were hired as remote after 2020? Do they have to RTO in their area, move to the Twin Cities to keep their jobs, or just quit?
I changed my status to remote shortly before the COVID shutdowns. Am I exempt from RTO?
Why is Medtronic being so heavy handed and inflexible about all of this? Earl Bakken must be spinning in his grave. GM and his cronies have put the Medtronic culture on life support.
Ninety miles? Holy cannoli.
Hired remote before COVID? What about those of us who weren’t hired remote before Covid but “officially” switched to remote before COVID?
Anyone in a 90 mile radius needs to RTO. Only exception if hired remote pre-Covid. No Exception.
@OP The language in the communication about hybrid workers RTO 4days/week is pretty heavy handed that local remote workers are next. A matter of when not if. But I’d be surprised if they didn’t stagger it a bit more, otherwise why not just include it in the last update? Who did you hear September from?
Yes
