Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

How’s everyone feeling this FY?

Curious how folks are feeling about this fiscal year so far. With all the recent changes and shifting priorities, is anyone else picking up on signals about where things might be headed?

I’m not looking for doom-and-gloom hot takes—more wondering if others are noticing patterns or trends beyond just what we get from official updates. Are people feeling stable, uncertain, optimistic?

It’d be good to get a sense of the temperature without just relying on doomscrolling.

@9qp I feel the same. I'm providing feedback on documents created by my Indian counterparts. That's not a good sign, right?

Lately it feels like jobs aren’t safe, like the ground could fall away at any moment. I don’t know if it’s just me or if other people feel this too

Maybe invite Trump and give him a golden statue of the Rising Man. Then Medtronic will get a larger tax break plus tariff and H1-B visa exceptions.

What are the chances GM invites Mamdani to speak at the annual holiday party? He fits the Medtronic mindset.

My product development group is in one of the three MDT markets that have any meaningful hope of rapid growth and high margins and the business is investing in R&D like we are in sustaining mode in a low margin, no growth market. It makes zero sense. I'm entertaining offers in start ups.

Not great. It’s clear to me that the executives and the board don’t care about Medtronic Mission. They just wants to squeeze as much money as possible.

@154 be careful what you wish for. This activist investor is out for quick gains which usually means rampant cost cutting. Be prepared for more RIFs, harsh budget cuts, and additional businesses divested.

More hopeful now that we have an activist investor.

“Things will get harder due to tariffs and cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. We will be the scapegoats.”

D-mbest thing I’ve seen here yet. And that speaks volumes.

Imagine renting a house with foundation, plumbing, and electrical issues. And your land lord is convinced that fresh paint on the walls has fixed everything and then increases rent. It's truly heartbreaking to see folks sell their soul to this place and mindlessly nod and smile with every mention of the Medtronic mission. Wake up, we are being robbed.

I’m feeling good. 5% raise this year and 110% MIp

Lot of travel money this year and recognize points more than last year.

Earnings are expected to be good plus with Hugo launch and RDN things are looking good.

Stock is also at 52 week high. Lets see what happens in earning this week

I’m not feeling optimistic. Investment in R and D just isn’t happening and trimming the fat can only “make” the company so much money. Without R and D it’s just going to be a slow bleed. MIP was an anomaly last year and that’s a perfect place for management to focus on taking money back. Hope I’m wrong, pessimism has become my default setting. GLTA
