The SLT should spend more time collaborating at the water cooler with regular employees.

SLT “shocked” by recent WoC survey results tells you everything you need to know about the SLT.

@145
GM is about to learn some harsh lessons after cutting engineering staff so deeply.
Some of us can finally relate to what happened with the software/IT cuts.
It's just irresponsible.
I can see the panic in the management.
Oh well.
Let them mistreat us and have the nerve to threaten us. See how that works out.

@110 Generative AI indeed represents a paradigm shift in the world of software development. But GM tends to implement new things without fully understanding the nuances. There's a lot of throwing it against the wall to see if it sticks, or in the best case scenario just seeing how it can be used to justify cost cutting. Good luck to GM trying to operate without software developers.

Most of General Motors isn't 'software and IT'.
TBH, this is all predictable and as AI replaces coders, GM won't need managers over bots.

What I find most surprising is that people are investing trillions into the AI bubble.
Why would you fund your own demise? What about your children's future? SMH

All of you are going to get what you deserve. A surveillance state where you grovel for government "benefits" to exist.

@dz
They already thinned the herd.
If you were a GM employee and not a troll, you would know that.

Too many layers of management.

Well past time to thin the herd.

You're right, union members have more protection from arbitrary management decisions and are required to be treated fairly.

Salaried workers have big egos and think they're better than everyone else and management will see that and treat them well. They think unions are just to protect lazy losers, when it's really just about fair treatment. Bad employees in a union can still be fired.

What's wild is you see more disgruntled employees on the salary side. Most are quiet quitting, some are actively sabotaging. Most managers hide in their office and want nothing to do with the daily business. The hourly folks who actually make the company money get sh-t on daily but still come in with a smile. I guess salary should finally unionize.

Is discontent really rising if it was already super high?
