Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

CRM is a miserable place to be

NM and his other directs are so afraid to do anything meaningful. The “barriers to execution” has been rated low for quarters now, and they do nothing about it. Maybe the barrier is you, leadership? Why hasn’t NM retired yet? I want to be a fly on the wall between his directs on who will take over. That cat fight will be delicious.

People like him LOVE the money and stock rewards ($7 million YTD). You’d think he’d retire and be happy but he’s gonna stick around as long as he can keep avoiding that Westlake move because he needs to feel powerful and in control. We all saw him unravel during the COVID years when remote work was RUINING his life. It seemed to bother him more than (hypothetically) a guy’s family moving as far away from him as they can.

Luckily (for him) things seem to be on the up-and-up these days. Ever since throwing himself a big, fancy $$$$ Posh Spice wedding in Ireland, he’s reveling in his return to power. With the dark days of Remote Work behind him, he’s loving getting CRM bodies back in the office 4X a week. You have to imagine he has a very smug glow on his face as he’s cashing in stock options and monitoring badge reports. These might be the best days of his life… until Westlake comes calling.

@2bm I lived there and escaped. It’s a serious hellhole unless you’re a white hetero evangelical male.

Flat? Ge-z people are seriously misinformed. Check out central Texas, specifically, the “hill country”.

@2bm+1jyt1vsd8 - They are probably referring to the floods, fires, power outages and that it is a flat, humid he-l hole.

Please explain more about “TX being a nightmare”, do you mean politically? Living here for the last 20 years, it’s been a pretty great place to live. But then again I’m in reality vs what CNN tells you.

@101 NM aside, I don't understand the push to move everyone to TX? MDs, attorneys, etc? Outside of the fact that TX is a nightmare isn't there a BC issue?

CRM is only miserable if you’re not NM (or one of his cronies). He’s cashed out over $7M in Schwab stock YTD. For someone whose main focus seems to be badge swipe reports and dodging a Westlake relocation, that’s impressive.

If making everyone else miserable while enriching yourself counts as ‘humanity,’ then yes NM has an immense amount!!

Whoever said that he had an “immense amount of humanity”, that’s laughable. You can like the man, likely because he promoted you or you want to be promoted, but come on.

NM is a good guy but he runs a tight ship and has a low tolerance for the lazy and incompetent.

@k9 Yes, he would replace you with a robot if he could and he has a duty to the shareholders to do that if it's possible and economically beneficial.

Nigel is one of the finest people I know and it has been an honor and a privilege working in his organization for the last 4 years. He has an immense amount of humanity but he does not let personal relationships or feelings get in the way of the decisions he makes. That is what makes him a truly outstanding leader and an indispensible asset to the Charles Schwab Corporation.

@qc no way he will ever move to TX. I think why he’s such a proponent of RTO, of having his team complete training so far in advance, not spending any travel budget, is he wants to fly under the radar enough that nobody questions why he is not in TX.

I’m curious if his commitment to ‘following the rules’ includes relocating to Texas, or if he’s just seeing how long he can ride out his ridiculously inflated salary and stock awards from the comfort of the Bay Area. He’s pretty typical of the performative, out-of-touch leadership running Schwab. NM would be a good fit though for the corporate soulless hellscape that is Westlake, Texas.

All departments are miserable places to be. Pressure to become more efficient is hitting MD levels and they don’t know what to do, other than play politics and come up with excuses. MD (old VP level) needs to thin out heavily as Directors are doing most of the work and dealing with lack of strategy throughout. It’s a mess.

@f4 yes, if he could replace you with a robot, he would without a moment’s hesitation. I keep hoping he will retire so some humanity could be brought back into this department and a shake up on his predatory leadership team, but, no, not yet.

And he’s a “big proponent” of full 5 day RTO. Woohoo.

These people don’t care about you. This corporation does not care about you. That’s very obvious over the past five years.
