In the last month Belk has lost a staggering number of managers, a large number of Belk stores have a management position open, yet very few applicants after seeing what managers go though on a daily basis.
All hours cut, but told to "hire, hire, hire" more $12/hr part time
can anyone understand why they are doing this?
You can fire me, but not yell at me
If I had more opportunities for a job in the town where I live, I wouldn't stay here for another second, but I certainly don't intend to suffer this madness for a long time. Where does anyone get the right to yell at employees? If they say that an... — read more
Retail is dying
Everybody who is considering Belk as their long-term employment is not looking at the big picture. Retail is dying. It's only a matter of time before we become completely obsolete. If it doesn't happen in the next five years it will happen in ten. As... — read more
The role of SM - how stressful is it really?
Our store manager acts as if his job is much, much harder and more stressful than it actually is. I don’t believe his job is even half as stressful as he pretends it to be? That person doesn't really do anything, but he pretends that everything... — read more
Dead
I swear it feels like I’m at a funeral in this place..
I still consider leaving even though I was promoted.
I was promoted to a higher position a couple of months ago. One would think that I would be excited and foolish after that, but no. All the same sh-t, just being screwed by different people above. My intention to leave and find another job hasn’t... — read more
For every one new hire, three people quit
For every one new hire at Belk, three people quit. Belk is in TERRIBLE shape when it comes to employee retention. Some stores are just operating on key holders. Store Managers for the most part are staying because they get a huge bonus.
2% raise
No wonder people keep quitting. Chump change.
Wrong people considered trustworthy
I would be lying if I said I didn't care about this job. I love working in retail and it was nice here for a while. What really bothers me is when despite everything I do, despite all my commitment, the manager still doesn’t consider me a... — read more

Dirty stores
I absolutely hate how dirty our store is. And I know there are those who are in even worse shape. Can't Belk at least make sure the stores are little cleaner?
I earn every cent here
It really pi---s me off when management behaves like we should be happy and grateful to work here. I earn every penny through hard work here, no one gives it to me just like that. Then why such attitude towards employees? Belk treats the worst... — read more
Why has everyone lost hope?
While this has long been a miserable place, I still think Belk will have to raise pay one day. Either they will raise pay or no one here will want to work here anymore but most seem to agree that it’s impossible for Belk to offer $16 to $18 an... — read more

Full timers watch out
Full time associates better watch your back as managers are looking at reasons to write up and terminate to get the FT / PT ratio down and fill the store with pure part time associates. You have been warned!!

Are we closed on Easter Sunday? Yep T-shirt not on the black out calendar?
What would be a fair pay per hr for a Belk employee?
Maybe the discussion that workers engage in most often is the discussion of how we’ re underpaid for the jobs that we do. While I couldn’t agree more with that claim I'm curious what you think a fair pay per hour would be for a regular store... — read more
