Topics regarding layoffs at Barnes & Noble

This company can't keep going for much longer.

Are sales are awful and no hours. People are quitting because they're not making enough money. I can't see our store staying open much longer. The company has to be doing very poorly.

MORE BAD NEWS, MORE CLOSINGS

Barnes and Noble Booksellers, a fixture at the Town Center Corte Madera mall, plans to leave after more than 15 years at the site, and Arhaus, a home furniture company, is preparing to move into the space. The bookstore has plans to close its shop... — read more

Which store is closing in westchester county?

Now they are opening a new store in Hartsdale New York. There’s no way they can have four stores for a such a small geographic area. Will Scarsdale, White Plains, and or Yonkers clothes what do you think?

5th anniversary of 3000 plus layoff

February 12 marked FIVE YEARS that BN “laid off” over 3000 and reported it as half that. Has the company gotten better since firing loyal employees? I say no.

Good Press for B&N

There have been several articles highlighting the success of Daunt and B&N in the last few days. Our local store is a filthy mess and old and worn out. Do the people writing this stuff even go to the stores or speak to the booksellers? Rumor has it... — read more

B&N not loyal

Yuck. These ho-s ain’t loyal. This company is the epitome of corporate he-l. Should you acquire the contract of my school, I will not apply for the job.

I'm shocked what is going on here.

My store manager has been telling other managers and some co-worker that particular employees are worthless and others they are easily replaceable. And these are hard working people. I'm fairly new to this company so I'm afraid to make waves but I'm... — read more

Maybe the store still has a chance to survive now that it’s horrible manager “retired”. She was nasty to customers and got rid of the good staff after COVID. The rest of the management team left too. Now the store is filled with young workers... — read more

Employee outrage as Barnes & Noble layoffs loom

Some of the employee comments: Is there any explanation as to why this holiday was so awful? I held off on making this post right before Christmas, with the hope that things would get better..but after experiencing the hellscape of Monday and... — read more

Barnes & Noble Top MGT Warns: GET OUT ASAP

I have contacts in many stores across the country and all the managers are seeing very weak sales for this time of year. And it's been trending badly for many, many months. I urge employees to find a more stable company ASAP because you're going to... — read more

Your store still stands but why

Here may be a contributing factors and probably the main reasons it still stands. B&N still has contracts with its surrounding schools to deliver text books and/or books for the schools libraries. Both k-12 and colleges. Book club events mainly old... — read more

Some knew in advance that their store would be closed, while some believed that their store would not be closed for some time, so they were surprised when it happened. The atmosphere in my store is terrible and I thought that it would be closed a... — read more

So many Barnes & Nobles Closing

There is no longer any Barnes & Noble in Boston. They used to have two. The Prudential Mall refused to renew their lease but now a classy Harvard Book Store is replacing it. Look for dozens of more B&Ns across the country to close in the Spring. — read more

More employees being driven out and fired

Do all companies drive out long-term employees because they're making too much money? I've been pushed to quit and another Assistant Mgr is being forced to leave too. Anyone else having this happening at their place?

So glad I no longer work for this awful company

Now that I am out I can tell what I know. My first store. One of the assistant managers deliberately hired an alcoholic because they had it with the store manager who was a walking te---r. So not only did we have to deal with a psycho running the... — read more

How many stores are still standing?

Mine closed four years ago and I'll be honest, I thought all would be gone within five years. Looks like I might have been wrong. Barnes & Noble is not doing great judging by the majority of the posts here, but it's still functioning to an extent... — read more

I Really Can't Believe I Have To Say This

After spending years on here, and dealing with you mo--ns I am finished. The fact that all of you are carrying this on 5 years later is insane. Move on, go to school, read a book, and find better work. If you get laid off, who cares? Something... — read more

B&N old and worn out

Just went into a B&N for the first time in two years. The carpet was worn out and stained and the place looked like a dump. New tables big deal. You can’t put lipstick on this pig.

I finally landed a new job

It's a decent improvement in pay and, from what I can see, a huge improvement in company culture. I start in August so I'll stick it out here for a few more weeks, but once I leave, I have no intention of ever looking back. This was once a good... — read more

Can BN be saved?

I have less and less hope that this is possible. I've been working for another company for a while now, but I'm still sorry that the company I used to love working for has reached the rock bottom.

Everyone is leaving…

We are loosing staff at a record pace. Most staff would jump ship for an extra bucks and a better schedule and who can blame them. We are overworked and their is a huge imbalance in effort. Some work others don’t it ki--s morale and people leave. — read more

Barnes & Noble will become like Blockbuster

One store open in the middle of nowhere for nostalgia's sake. Everything else will be gone within five years (and I'm being very generous with that timeframe). I'm not saying this to be mean. Barnes & Noble has been a great place for book lovers for... — read more
