Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Retail restructure

Heard some stories about major restructure. Elimination of SMM in under performing tier 2 stores, PT Team Supervisor to go, ET Supervisor in smaller stores as well. Can someone confirm?

SSM in tier 3 stores or SMM in tier 2? Eliminating SMM makes more sense as Staples is moving towards a more service based business model for stores.

Announcement Thursday to GMs, tier restructure, many stores to lose SSM position, as well as an elimination of PT Sup position. No insight to potential severance packages. Will be in effect by end of P12.

Whether you are retail or in an office or SDO take the "start looking" message from folks seriously. It will only continue to get worse before better.

I said "start looking now" as in send out your resume, etc. Also, the more closures, the more likely they will decide to eventually say no severance. That's $$$$ that could be in Ron's bonus, and that's what it's all about.

While I'm sure things wont get better, waiting for severance would certainly help with the whole being unemployed thing..

Bottom line for stores, start looking, now!. Google Wet Seal store closures. This will be what Staples stores are in soon. They will lie , cheat and steal (they already do) to try to keep stores at minimal staffing until they are ready to cut them lose, then BAM. The more stores they decide to close, the more ruthless and efficient they will get. No notice, no transfers, no severance. They are already trying to pre-emptively fire and drive out people to avoid paying severance, it will get worse as the process goes on. Read the writing on the wall, it will get continually worse, it will not stabilize, it will NOT get better.

The SMM elimination has been tossed around a lot, as well as ET supervisors.

If they are eliminating a FT assistant manager position in T2 stores I can not imagine them eliminating the PT sup in the same stores. Working the last couple weeks since Xmas, with all the key-holders scrambling to use the last of their PTO has been a joke. I can't see Staples cutting all these positions, it may vary by Tier level and by individual stores depending on staffing. But then again, Ron getting a full bonus is the company's top priority, so maybe they do plan to eliminate all these positions.

They have not given bank hours for supervisors for a while now. They are supposed to come out of the department they work in. O/S for FT and tech for PT sup.

I've heard this as well. My store has already lost it's SSM as of almost a year ago now. Looking at payroll this week someone mentioned there were no hrs allocated for the FTS, anyone else seeing anything similar?
