Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

Were there mass layoffs before 2009?

I was there when the layoffs happened in 2009. Lady Luck was smiling brightly at me then but this time she gave me the cold shoulder. I got canned yesterday. I heard that there was a mass layoff around 2003. Is it true? Does anyone know? If it is true - 2003 - 2009 - 2015 - there seems to be a pattern.

I've been here for 15 years and believe this is the 4th or 5th layoff I've gone through, hence the Nine lives. A couple of times there were only 20 or 30 people laid off, nothing to write home about and they were when we only had 1 or 2 products. In 2009 it was around 220 people, 2002 about 190 and before that a few here & there.

... but saying "others did it, too" is just lame.

If "others" jumped of the roof - would they jump too?

Unfortunately it happens to a lot of companies...it's all about the bottom line.

Anon64825 - This layoff goes against the previous pattern, which is to lay off when the economy is going down. 2002 was the bursting of the Web bubble, and 2009 was the Great Recession. 2015? Apple just had a record quarter. Google did miss the analyst numbers somewhat, but management doesn't care too much what the analysts say. Even Microsoft had a decent quarter. Intel beat their quarterly numbers.

So things are going pretty well in tech these days. Except for IBM and HP. Oh yeah and Citrix.

no - 2002 was the first one, before that, Citrix was a one town/ one hotel company (nothing much to worry) - with the acquisition of Sequoia... all that changed; There were some "artificial" hiring stops now and then before 2002 - actually shortly after 9/11 - but no layoffs.

Thanks erogesen for fishing it out. Looks like Citrix lays off 10% of its workforce every 6 - 7 years. Now I suspect maybe there were layoffs before that too - around 1995 - 1996? Maybe it was too small to be covered by any news sites then.

Yes, 2002, actually - 10% - almost the entire Sequoia team in EMEA had to go, minus 2 techies

There were layoffs before 2009. I cannot confirm whether they were in 2003 or not.
