My heart goes out as well for all SDO'S employees. Our family just got the final word yesterday of the Southern California closure. My spouse is in the delivery industry for over 20 years and we lived through many mergers & closures. The only difference is the others where taken over by other companies so in the end former drivers became current drivers, and allot of the old crew reunited. Not so much this time because it will be taken over by a 3rd party owner operator company. Southern California SDO will be taken over by On Trac, so I done my research. Amazon replaced UPS and FedEx with On Trac to save on cost. They may do but their customers our very an happy with the delivery of On Trac, not dependable, not following instruction etc. So soon as later it will bite Staples. Just like to express that my family is feeling for all of you nationwide, and really hope that great opportunity will open up for you all.
I come from a big sdo and thought we would be safe. When I found out they were going to combine the three companies, I knew that shit was going to hit the fan. They might not monopolize the office product industry. But they definitely are monopolizing the office product delivery industry. Hence they no longer need their own fleet... Who else are these contract companies going to order from with no delevery cos? At the end of the day we are all just another employee number. I wish you all the best. As for me I'm glad it's over.
I am praying for everyone going through these tough times. I just wish I knew one way or the other and how long we have. I am ready to continue on if that's what I must do but not before a deserved severence
