Office Max did not outsource much domestic functions. Bookkeeping was in house. Deliveries were sent to warehouses in large trucks from the suppliers and shipped to the stores and customers from there. Accounting and bookkeeping was done internally as well as customer service for Office Max and Reliable. If you called them, you most likely talked to someone in America. Now Office depot has gutted Office Max. All employees are gone. Office Max shipping warehouses are being closed down. While Office Max's method was an more cost effective, Office Depot decided to outsource it all. Now with close to 2500 jobs in Illinois alone lost, its hard to say what Staples will do. I look at it as a sign of hope. I hope it stalls the Office Depot/Max merger as well as moves thousands of jobs back to the US.

Staples will gut everything. All they want is the elimination of a potential customer and the client book.
