Tim did seem like a good guy, but don't kid yourself. He was in the club and would have sacrificed the many to save the few if it came down to it. You don't really think it was a coincidence that he got the job in Colorado do you? This was part of the RJ parachute act for the few. He was going to retire and was offered a good chuck of change for being loyal to the club. The money they paid him could have saved jobs in the lay offs.

I remember sitting in a meeting on the updates to healthcare at RJ and I saw a few retired top executives. Do you think the majority get healthcare from RJ when they retire? Belonging to the club gives you perks. Don't mind the millions you have saved for retirement and that this money could provide a comfortable retirement. You also get perks when you retire. Although you are no longer with the company, we are going to provide for you. We don't care about the common folk still working here. The club has a price and the expense is the majority.

The funny thing I remember in the healthcare meeting was the one retired executive complaining about the raise in cost. Another regular employee complained as well, which seemed a little more valid. She mentioned she was a single parent of three and how the costs would really hurt her. I thought it was really ironic and almost laughable.

RJ is a good stepping stone at best. Watch your back as the self proclaimed leadership team can't be trusted at all. Dance with the devil and you'll get burned. And they enjoy doing it. Remember at one of the recent all IT meetings they announced a goal of 90% employee retention? 10% of IT staff is disposable. It's a rule with an iron fist IT program plagued with constant change in staff and direction. New hires would be advised to use RJ as a launch pad or stay away entirely. Promoting from within occurs rarely if at all. Interns will find themselves working 40+ hours and learning little beyond the stay busy grunt work handed to them.

I consider working at RJ more of a job than a long term career. RJ does not value the employee, no training, mentoring, low pay, low bonus, team outings etc.

RJ's history as a best place to work was one of the main reasons I accepted the offer. A short time later, the reality of what RJ IT has become was the reason I left.

Tim was a good guy and a good leader. I think the 6 consecutive best IT places to work speaks for itself.
