Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Instead of hiring engineers overseas to save on cost, how about hiring marketing and program managers overseas to save on cost.....

Since bean counters like to do bean counting math and propose hiring 6+ engineers in bangalore or china "for the same cost as hiring 1 engineer in the U.S."....

I think companies would save more money if they hired 20+ marketing people for the same cost we probably pay to hire 1 marketing person here in the U.S.... Or hire 20+ project managers/program managers overseas for the same amount of money we waste on hiring 1 pm in the united states...

Or hire 20+ HR representatives overseas instead of hiring 1 HR representative in the U.S.

They might not be very competent, but neither are the the U.S. marketing and program/project managers and HR personnel...And at least we would be saving a heck of a lot on overhead costs that don't really add value to the finished product

The royalty stream is like bridge toll collection and works great in the free world where lawyers are abundant. The problem comes when you go to somebody’s country and expect to collect toll on their bridges, because their bridges look like the ones your design. Even if they copied your design, you cannot collect toll on their bridge.

Salaries are not the problem. Lack of revenue generating IP, even at exhorbinant costs, is what we need. Calling red herring.

There are people with Marketing in their title that do secretarial work. Someone up high needs to see evidence of meaningful deliverables that all employees do, no matter their title. And by-pass their management that protect those people's jobs.

Better to shift the whole company overseas and sell product in US

Why only marketing fellow, it applies to engineer also , s/w code can be written anywhere then why to hire engineer in US and pay a huge salary

Lack of competent employees, regardless of source, points to lack of competent management that hire them. Period.
