Does anyone know if Staples is still planning on eliminating all assistant managers?

Even if they do not cut your position in the next couple months, it will be hell to work there waiting for the other shoe to drop. Layoffs / terminations /closures will be a constant threat over the next year and beyond. Even if you should get by, the place sucks to work for now days.

If they announce anything now those affected will probably say f*** it for the next two weeks through the holidays.

I suspect it is their short term goal to cut the remaining SMM (operation mgr) positions in Tier 2 stores. Possibly T1 as well, eventually.

They feel $12 an hour team supervisors do more than $20hr AMs because they are hungrier for advancement. The cost savings between the two speaks for itself. The only drawback to them is the bench strength. They will not have a lot of people to promote to GM when needed. They will start aggressive write ups and PIPS for underperforming SSMs.
