company laid off a large amount of employees in the automotive stores. i am in a southern california store and was let go. going from 5 sales people to 2, and from 14 mechanics to 9, but will keep the same hours. they are spreading the staff thin. we were required to sign a form saying that "we are willing to work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week if needed". my manager informed me that i would have to be scheduled 5 days, and then have a 6th day where they can call me in if needed. i let him know i wasn't going to sit at home waiting for a call to come to work once a week, and he told me that others were willing to do so, so i would lose my job. i was given a severance package of one week per year i work, it was only offered to full time employees. the automotive plan is to decrease payroll, but the store is expected to have a sales increase of 100k. i don't understand how that will work. we were originally told that these cuts would take place after the new year, so it wouldn't affect holidays but all of the sudden they were sprung on us. bad time to let a lot of people go, right before the holidays.
