I'm being told I may not have the right background for my position for accreditation. So I'm trying to find the policy on what credentials are required.

In some accreditation a, it may. Coupled with credits towards degree. My suggestion is to enroll.
Does experience in the field also count?
Typically you would need an education one level up from what the school is offering. Ie/ if we offer diplomas, then a minimum Associates is required. I'm not sure if its in Confluence, but you may want to go-to the accreditation website for details.
