Thread regarding SAE Institute (formerly the School of Audio Engineering) layoffs

Curious...

I've never been to a school with only one finance person before...just saying, who thought of that? Is this helping SAE? What about students?

52926- I'm with ya. Decisions before diligence. Just like the layoff decision.

Which campus even has the room with the computers and phone numbers? I wonder, because I don't think they did that on my campus. I graduated from a college that had a system like that and everything was very automated. Not like this you all are saying. It seems they didn't prepare at all. Maybe decisions are being made much to quickly without forethought. Is this the new way? Start fires and then have a meeting later about buying extinguishers? I don't think this will help, but its how a lot of people are feeling on campus and at other campuses.

This company is like living in Mayberry with Deputy Barney Fife as the Sheriff! Real Mickey Mouse organization you guys run here SAE/USE - Navitas.....how about we just let the students run the operation I'm sure things couldn't get much worse. Just my suggestion

I am still waiting on the contact information for the “easily accessible support group at the Miami offices” Who are these experienced Financial Aid reps in Miami, I don’t think any students are familiar with the people and/or process that you are referring to. If there are additional people available the phone numbers, email address and web conferencing information that someone mentioned would be greatly appreciated. I think everyone is more than willing to embrace change, the problem is there is a severe lack of communication. Exactly what changes should everyone embrace? Should everyone embrace the fact that so many people are no longer available and no contact information has been provided for those that now handle their responsibilities?

Classroom and proper servicing should go hand in hand

Not be defending the system when I too am upset with some of the changes, but every change to save money isn't always to push more money to the top. By spending only where we have to, and saving where we can, we can keep costs reasonable for our students. In the end, who do you think pays for it all? The consumer/student. What's in the classroom matters most, any and all outside elements outside of that should always be controlled. No one want to see jobs eliminated, but our classrooms are strong, and that is what matters most to our students.

This concept was initiated by SAE US, not Navitas or SAE Global. Yes, it was supported by them.. but it didn't come down from them.

most big schools have gone to this model 4-5 years ago. I was at a for profit back in 2008 and they went to that model. They had a room with about 5-6 computers, 5-6 phones and and number to call on the wall for fin aid. its a way for companies to save money......in other words they want to keep as much money in their pockets and give horrible service to the students. would you go to a car dealership or purchase a home and you only spoke with the finance people, closing atty's via phone to go over the contract and money you're about to spend? Not only did the layoff affect the ones that were laid off but the students suffer too. Again......poor decisions made by those across the ocean

The students haven't been given info to contact that office your talking about. We only know of the office on our campus. We talk about it, she does try to help us, but there are always people in there, lines and stuff which is crazy.

51795 sounds familiar. Like it was taken from a presentation that was probably used to introduce this idea.

It may take time for campuses and students to embrace.

I didn't realize we were on online school or the US had that many students to service. Not quite sure how comfortable people are going over finances remotely. I see my accountant when going over finances. If he sent me to a website to web conference, I'd walk.

Actually, the campus really doesn't have one Finance person. But a support group that is easily accessible at our Miami Offices. We have available, experienced Financial Aid Reps who students can access almost any time via phone, email or web conferencing to go over your Financial Aid options. This concept has been successful at online colleges where they do not meet with anyone in person. It has also worked for large school systems that have up to 20,000 students or so.

Ha! I wonder if they asked them how that would work before the changes, or at least tried to find out what all they do. I have no clue what they have to do in there, but it always seems so busy, even when there isn't a start, so it has to be more than that. That one was a surprise, but then again- so was all of it.
