A group of democratic Congressmen wrote a letter to Education Secretary Arne Duncan Tuesday urging him to "carefully scrutinize" the proposed sale of for profit college behemoth Corinthian Colleges to a student loan debt collector with a troubled record. The debt collector, ECMC, has been criticized widely for hounding bankrupt students in court and using extreme arguments to deny borrowers any relief on their loans.

368: You manage to convey an impressive amount of douchebaggery in two lines...I'm impressed. As far as ECMC goes, the pressure isn't to stop the deal necessarily. The politicos (and some well-placed peeps at ED) are signalling to accrediting agencies and their own ED audit staff to keep scrutinizing us and to pounce hard if we mess up again. There are a lot of power players unhappy with this deal and just looking for an excuse to say "I told you so."
