Thread regarding SAE Institute (formerly the School of Audio Engineering) layoffs

SAE Institute Still Hiring???

How is it that there are still recent job postings (within the past 3 weeks) for SAE Institute across the campuses? For the FA people that were laid off, couldn't they have at least let them know of the FA positions at the other campuses? I remember 3 years ago we used to promote intercampus positions.

Yup. Another mistake by HR. Not surprised. She finally took it down.

Lol. They took down all the positions. It took this site to give Hr a clue.

I know lots of people have something against the HR person. She's either overwhelmed or over her head. This position has gotten too big for her. Or always was. It seems the only thing she knows how to do is process paperwork (and not all that well either). It's a shame that such an important position is manned by someone so ineffective, inefficient and no interpersonal skills. But consider her background. She worked for a manufacturing company. The types of individuals she dealt with are different from academia. And her treatment of the people is apparent. She regards them as if they are temp workers on a manufacturing line.

I heard it was the former recruiter who posted prior to his leaving.... Yet again, another communication fail on the part of SAE HR. Thanks for letting us know he's no longer with SAE either

Interesting. The open job listings on indeed.com are now closed. When clicking on the indeed link for more information, the link takes you to careerbuilder.com. Careerbuilder.com says the job cannot be found. It seems someone must be reading this board and realized a huge screwup. Or they've hired for all those positions already.

No, they cannot turn around and hire for the same position. But they can "create" a new position that may seem similar to the other one to be able to pay less. For example the Operations went from one person to possibly three regionals. But those Regionals have other responsibilities as well. It's a mix mosh of duties.

I've always heard and was told there was a "hiring freeze" and this has been in effect for months. If I didn't know any better you would think the Navitas big wigs have their high school kids running this operation!

To hire someone and pay them less money? That would mean paying the new people min wage! lol I'm sure the Fin Aid people were barely making $40k.....barely. But like you said......I think they are just pulling names out of a hat and deciding that way or that is what it appears. I don't think they can legally layoff folks and then turn around and hire for the same position......they can't be that dumb......I hope not.

Something is fishy. If you do a search on Indeed.com for SAE Group jobs you will find several open listings for campus level jobs.

There is a post on one of the other topics saying that the Atlanta campus lost 2 out of 3 financial services people. Why do some campuses still have FA staff while other campuses have none at all after the layoff? Does this mean there is some truth to the rumor of a 2nd round of layoffs happening after the holidays and that the ones that are left will be in the 2nd round? Or are they planning to replace the people that were laid off at the campuses? Perhaps with lesser paid individuals?

This layoff made no sense. This leadership team truly has no idea what they are doing. It's like the person making the decisions is just pulling names out of a hat.

Its almost like someone up top woke up one morning and made the decision to cut these departments and/or people without consulting anyone on the ground. How else can you explain it? So the people who are left are on pins and needles not knowing when they walk into the campus for a day's work if that's going to be the last day working because some top person woke up again with the idea of what other departments to cut and/or people.

50567 - Agree with you about poorly executed decisions and costly unnecessary trips and lack of commitment. We've all been told to be on Shipleys admissions calls then had to wait over 30 minutes for him to come to the call. Even with campus directors on there waiting and when he arrived he didn't seem to even care. That kind of thing happens a lot. No respect for anyones time but their own. And that admissions trip to Mexico was a total waste of tens of thousands of dollars. But I don't think we are pawns, they are not smart enough for that. I think that this team in Miami is very immature and inexperienced and their roles are the biggest jobs they ever had and they somehow landed in them and they had no idea what to do. Bottom line - these Miami people aren't ready to lead a team of experienced directors at established campuses that were seeing success before they got there. They tried to break everything in order to fix it, and it wasn't broken.

We are all pawns. I have been with SAE for years now and never saw such poorly executed decisions until this current management team stepped in place. From costly, elite admissions events, to poor coordination of meeting schedules, no commitment to their original vision, no commitment to communication, no commitment to people.

They're obviously centralizing and streamlining financial operations like many proprietary schools have done. What's different about this is that it didn't seem like even the campus directors knew how it was gonna go down. People in the positions eliminated didn't even have a chance to apply for new roles that are posted. It would have been better to tell us up front that our jobs were going away and then if we were qualified for the new jobs let us apply. At least that would have felt better to those of us let go.
