Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Such a sad time when...

Everest schools get bought before Heald Schools.

I am still optimistic that liability for Heald will be released and the sale will go through for us. She may not release he CA Everest schools, which would be sad, but to behest Heald is my main focus. We deserve a chance to get out from under CCI and continue to serve our students.

714, yes, each brand is listed, as is CCi as a whole. I'm sure there's some legal reasoning behind this, i.e., it's easier to get monetary relief that way in the event that one of the four entities (Heald, Everest, Wyotech, or Corinthian) ceases to exist. It may mean something, or it may mean nothing, but it does mean that none of the brands are in the clear. The California schools are a hard sell.

712 - if this is in fact true then I stand corrected, I was not aware of that. I'd be curious to now if there is actual evidence of wrongdoing by Heald specifically or if the AG filed suit against CCI and named all the in CA schools in the suit. From what I've read she has been after CCI for a couple of years now. I still believe that it would be in everyone's best interest to allow the schools to be sold and then continue to go after CCI. From a purely objective standpoint, it would be a win-win for all involved. I know she is trying to prove a point and take a hard-line stance with CCI, but I my opinion it would do more harm than good to block a sale, especially when you're talking about thousands of students involved.

Heald is named in the lawsuit.

561 - keep in mind that not every brand and campus under CCI engaged in illegal behavior. For many it is guilt by association. Every article I have read discusses Everest's actions, I have not read one that mentions any specific acts of wrongdoing by Heald. I'm not saying there may not be one that does, if there is I haven't seen it.

A lawsuit is an expense.

Probably depends on how likely the new owner is to continue fraudulently misleading students and falsifying placement and attendance information.

I wonder what the chance are of the CA AG shifting her position to stop trying to potentially block a sale.

I don't think it's a matter of expensive vs. inexpensive, but rather the willingness of buyers to take on a potential lawsuit by the State of California.

I look at it a different way. The Everest "assets" that were sold were garbage, mostly with pretend (i.e. ACICS) accreditation, and went for a fire-sale price to a company that is known for predatory business practices and that has never operated schools of any kind. The value of Heald is significantly higher than those assets, and it is not surprising that Heald might take longer to sell. Cheaper stuff sells faster than expensive stuff in other words.

So why were we not sold? I assume it's the lawsuit brought by Kamala Harris. I do wonder if we will get sold. Dept. Of Ed. Apparently wants a nonprofit "shell". WASC may disagree. Others thoughts?

I agree. I bet they are just trying to hang on to us as long as possible to keep money coming in being we are their biggest moneymaker. For all intents and purposes, Heald should have sold months ago.
