Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Keeping the school names? Are they nuts?!?

Okay, so this is still rumor/speculation at this point, but we are hearing (Tampa) that ECMC don't plan on changing our school names. I thought I heard that these people are from California, so how can they not know about at least Everest's reputation? I'm not only talking about the online reviews of our schools that more and more students check out before they commit. Why make it easier for people to find those? With Everest we've actually become infamous, with people posting degrading fake commercials on YouTube and "Everest" as the punchline of many a joke. Remember the Simpsons episode where we see into the future and Lisa is Prez? Bart's loser status is exemplified by his attending Devry Institute. Well, in real life Devry has improved its reputation and is even regionally accredited. WE'RE the real life joke! ECMC, please, please change our name! I'm so embarrassed to tell people where I work!!

Name change costs money; money ECMC doesn't want to spend. If you are a CCi employee you would know by reading the letter/memo that was sent out by the ECMC CEO yesterday.

Basically, they are looking to trim costs. Read into it what you wish.

886 - I think you're giving students too much credit. And I don't mean just Everest "recruited through Jerry Springer" students either. I also teach at a state university and it's amazing how lazy most students are. Was I like that? Anyway, I don't see much research beyond a Yelp search and skimming the first 2-3 reviews. I agree that the Everest name is toxic. I NEVER tell anyone I know that I teach for EUO. It's always that I'm an education consultant for Corinthian Colleges.

It as clearly stated in the letter from ECMC that we got yesterday that they are keeping the name. With the information super highway is doesn't make any difference. Socle Education, John Brown University, or Cry-O Tech, they were all once run by CCi and any one will know that with a little research on the internet. In addition, all of our competitors are going to point that out if ECMC decides to change the name.

I think that even if ECMC does change the names prospective students are going to have plenty of internet postings that the new name is just the old Everest with a new coat of paint. Why not save the money, put it into improvements and be honest with new and existing students that we are "under new management."

I'm not sure where in Tampa you work, OP, but the rumor circulating around the mall is very different. It's that they're going to call the new operation "Socle Education." It makes sense if you want to disassociate yourself from the CCi brands. From visiting this board during the "five months of hell" (please let it be over), it sounded like even a lot of Socle employees didn't know they worked for CCi!
