Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

I heard some campuses are going to have separate Outreach? Man, that would rock. But 'tutoring sessions'? FUNNY! How will they manage that?

Students don't even come to class. There's no way they will come for tutoring. And why not use the tutoring center? I'm online and I wonder if the tutoring center really exists. I've never had a student actually use it.

198, the reason why most instructors roll their eyes because there is a clear difference between an instructor and a tutor. Those of us who went to college/university clearly understand the difference. Those of us who teach at other schools know that there is a difference. Most schools have a peer tutoring program and links students with a peer who volunteers to tutor (I know , I know, in this case it would be like the blind leading the blind). Some have a tutoring department and some require the student to find his/her own tutor. Most instructors have absolutely no desire to be a tutor. If they did they would have applied for a tutoring position instead of an instructor position.

The cci students are offered 3 free tutoring classes in any class that they need help with. In four years teaching online I have only had one student ask for and actually do the tutoring. 90% of our students are not here for the education, they are here for the money.

That's why programs like outreach and free tutoring doesn't work at Everest. You have to have students who want to learn.

Every once in awhile somebody suggests tutoring or extra services for struggling students. And yea, everybody immediately rolls their eyes at the idea because we all know that if they can't come to class they sure as hell aren't going to take the time for tutoring. Tells you everything you need to know about CCI students and the monster we've created.

I teach and did tutoring one session. In 12 weeks I was referred 8 students for tutoring--free for students. Not one showed. I never did tutoring for Cci again.

I'm an online instructor. I used to teach at a fledgling school for a competing for profit. We were paid in addition to adjunct salaries to tutor students. If I had a dime for every hour I lost when students never showed, even after canceling and rescheduling multiple times. After one month, I refused to put any tutoring hours on my schedule. It was wasted time and lost money.
