Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

High salaries at the top; low salaries for instructors and everyone else

I think part of the anger and acrimony displayed on this site stems from the underlying organizational structure of CCi: high salaries and bonuses are paid to the leadership group housed at Santa Ana, while all other employees are hired at low wages (especially instructors). As a result, most of us feel like we are viewed as simply line items in a budget rather than individuals who can be part of the solution.

Ummm....742, we agree but I think we are underqualified call center reps with unleveraged academic credentials and experience. This is so odd, in addition to sucking.

It's more or less the same. But we aren't instructors. We are Outreachests. No matter. I just found a great job with better pay. I'm out. (It wasn't on a job board. Not all jobs are listed on job boards. Do your research and you'll find it!)

I think one needs to also consider what the adjunct pay represents at different schools. Everest may seem higher, but if you include all of the required outreach, in my experience it pays less per hour.

I have to say Everest pays average when it comes to being a full time employee, and worse than average for adjuncts. That's based on what I was paid as an adjunct in CA at other community colleges, and Everest pay was the lowest of the 4 schools I worked with at one time, including another for-profit school. But, they gave me the most classea, so my paycheck with them was bigger.

Do your homework, troll. Everest pays above average, but I routinely get 2-4 classes per term. Some for profits get 1, maybe 2 classes. And some profits drop pay if your roster gets below 13 students. Yeah, Harvard pays big bucks to adjuncts. But only the very few get that lucky. I've been on staff at a local, tech college that pays less, and they offer me work every couple years.

I'm an adjunct. This is my highest paid adjunct job out of the 7 I've had. It pays more than direct competition, including ITT. And since many for profits have 'pools' Imdont have to sit out terms to get work at Everest. Do your actual homework, OP. Theories must be proven through research and fact. Asshat.

All businesses have highly paid leadership. Duh. Instructor pay is slightly higher than other for profits. But it's in the range or lower than non profit. It's nothing to write home about, but nothing to cry about.

I really don't think a display of anger on an anonymous discussion board is an indicator of employee sentiment. Many of the meanies are former employees, competitors or recruiters. Yes this is a rough trip, but literate employees can't be too surprised. As an instructor it is disheartening to see constant changes in org structure and employee responsibility without commensurate compensation. But isn't it true that these disparities have existed for years? I was recruited to teach at a rate higher than that offered by competitors, but I do more for less compensation than many here. Instructors are valued less than people who micromanage non trends in attendance data, and less than those who push paper to admit students who cannot read. It will all be over in October, except for the criminal investigation part.
