Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

3rd window restructuring, layoffs, new positions, revised compensation and PA policies

In early 2015 sales managers and tech center supervisors in stores below 8m will be laid off, if you're between 6 & 8 your part time supervisor goes full time.Tech centers averaging below 5k a week will lose supervisor and gain additional tech. Several hundred stores have been assessed as non desirable, following the initial wave of closures we'll announce market consolidation strategies, lastly despite the rumors Staples leadership is not considering an ODP merger at this time, our debt ratio would be too high and leadership is uncomfortable with this.

How do I know what my store makes? I do know it's a tier 4.

This information is true, there are going to be a few exceptions for talent retainment that will be headed up by field management but for the most part, we are going to see severe reductions. To answer the question above, most assistants are being weighed, low operating cost competitors have only a single manager and what no one is considering is that a 13,000 square foot store is supposed to be substantially easier to run/maintain than a 25,000 square foot store. Everyone is talking about the cost savings in spatial terms, but the real savings is in labor. You all feel overburdened right now, like ,"Man this labor is insufficient for the space and traffic," but a reduction of both mitigates the difficulty. The sad fact however is that corporate says blank number of hours for blank number square ft and sales, so the operating ratio is maintained in the smaller stores and therefore people go away.

Good idea, get rid of all assistant managers under $8 mill. Good luck promoting the supervisors to GMs when all the current one quit.

Based on the current nature of Staples and their desire to be more than office supplies, wouldn't they let the SMMs between $6 and $8 mill go before the SSMs?

Are you saying that if my store does less than $6 million per year, it is very likely to be closed here in the coming few months?
