Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Outreach sucks

I spend so much time doing it that I no longer have time to teach.

ILOVE outreach. Programmed my phone to dial the 75 students with no phone while at the gym. Paste record of call in evenings over the course of the week.

BOOM! Done.

We r so fortunate to have accurate data on our students!

Outreach = calling and/or emailing students that don't participate or have less than a 70$ each each week, recording interactions with these students in Talisma, Skype with atudents, and contacting advisors about student performance on a regular basis.

What is Outreach?

CCI is not a school, it is a constructed vessel to receive federal money, disguised as a school. Instructors at real schools are not responsible for students attendance, students are. CCI has no interest in students education, just the money that they get from the federal government. If a instructor has to call as student about attendance even once, then the instructor should be looking for a new job. After being required to call students for attendance, the next logical course is giving away passing grades to keep them in class and keep the $$$ flowing. If the students don't show, simply state they did,

Outreach and Talisma! Can you believe instructors with Ph.d have to call students and plead with them to come to class, so we can get paid. If this is for profit education then I agree shut it down! Students know the game they post one sentence a week to have attendance, they really don't have a clue the check they get has to be paid Back!

Everyone is pimping The system, to get paid. Yes, I am on the phone, just come to class so we can all get our money!

Outreach is one of the reasons I decided to quit teaching at EUO. I told my PD that it is not my responsibility to make sure adult students turn in their homework to me. It's bad enough that they won't do anything to the students that blatantly plagiarize their work. Again, these are adult students. You don't show up for work, you get fired. You don't do your work in my class, you receive a zero.

Some of these students are being called 4 or 5 times a day. If someone else called them today, I will not call them. It seems everyday I am doing less and less outreach because I have no faith in it.

The adjunct pay isn't any different from other schools. Why stay?

80% Outreach! I quit because I was hired an an instructor. But there's not much instructing going on. I used to spend 8 hours every Monday doing Outreach and was burned out by Tuesday. I couldn't take it anymore. I lasted 3 semesters and went and got a real teaching job.
