Staples upgrades its Framingham headquarters

Office-supply giant Staples Inc., which looks to reinvent itself as a more nimble Internet retailer, said it has just reinvented its brick-and-mortar headquarters in Framingham.

The reinvention includes a “more open and collaborative floor plan” and a cafeteria where options include healthful chow, the company said in a press release.

There’s also a 9,500-square-foot-fitness center managed by Plus One Health Management.

And in an effort to keep morale as toned up as employee physiques, the company added that it is establishing the Staples Share Fund, a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization founded and funded by associate and corporate contributions.

The fund is designed to offer relief for Staples associates in need of financial assistance due to events such as natural disasters, catastrophic events, or other circumstances beyond their control. Staples says it has agreed to match contributions up to $1 million.

John Burke, the company’s chief culture officer, addressed some of the changes in a statement.

“The health and well-being of Staples associates is paramount to the company’s success,” Burke said. “We’re investing in our greatest asset, our associates, to make sure they have a world-class work environment and the resources they need to feel fit and energized.”

You think the 40k a year General Manager or the $10 an hour supervisior is going to be able to take advantage of a $1 million match?!?!? There's only an elite group of executives who will be able to take advantage of that. Greed at its finest at Staples.

Just like you invested in the General Managers and took their stock option away. Just like you invested in the employees who lost their job because they didn't "earn the right" to keep their stores open. Just like you invested in SDO. Just like you invested in Memphis. Just like you invested in Corporate Express. Just like you invested in Not Easy Tech. Just like you invested in the great Assistant Managers you had employed. Just like you invested in Back To Brighton. Just like you invested in the 5 days extra PTO when you didn't pay out bonuses. Just like you invested in YOUR executive bonuses, because you have worked so hard...

They have to do something. The home office employees don't even like working there. What does that tell you?

Wonderful. The phrase "shifting deck chairs on the Titanic" comes to mind when I read this post.

Hahaha I didn't believe our previous HR regional manager when he said they were going to make PR campaign moves including adopting "blog spots" on forums typically aiming to knock Staples, yet here we are. Staples is a top heavy, bloated, and consorted nightmare deserving nothing more than shameful dissolution. It represents the sickness of organizations run by geriatric sociopaths and I personally will delight in nothing more than its abysmal demise.
