Finally at long last someone up high has gleaned the synergy potential in acquiring odp. This could actually happen, the right ears are listening.

Doesn't make sense from a financial stand point. ODP and Max want to have 1000 stores and a strong online market. Staples doesn't want much more than 250 stores in 10 years, just online. And don't ever believe a thing if they tell you it is a merger of equals. ODP does hostile take overs, even when they are a smaller company of the two. At Depot, they don't drink the kool-aid, they spoke de pot. Phase 1 depot closings are on 11/14. Phase two in Feb 2015. Staples executives stick around for 15 years. Depot execs are just in for 2 years for the big merger payday. They hire their friends from other retail companies and rake in easy money. Then jet. Get out of Office Supplies retail!
yep, i'd put it as extremely likely! everyone here from corp knows what i am talking about! its how we do bidness!
haha yes it will. it's buzzing in admin.
This will never happen
Even if said merger of rumor pans out, it'd end up with another round of mass layoffs. Depends on if Staples is the one who ends up with the leverage after the merger is made (i.e. Staples acquires ODP). It's all kind of moot, because I'll probably be laid-off by the time that merger takes place anyway. In all honesty, good luck to those who are left.
They'll allow it in the face of much more consolidated industry competitors.
Regulators didn't allow it once before, why would they now?
Murmerings or Murmurings?
