Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Letter to ECP

Team Everest College Phoenix,

In addition to the recent CCi communications you received, I want to share the following ECP-specific information with you:

  1. CCi filed an 8K report with the Securities and Exchange Commission this morning providing further details on the Operating Agreement signed with USDOE last week. While you may access it by clicking on investor relations. Here are the highlights:

a. Everest College Phoenix is now publicly identified as one of the 85 CCi institutions to be sold over the next six months.

b. USDOE and CCi are finalizing a sale-related disclosure statement for prospective and current students. That document will then be shared with our regional accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission, for its review and approval. Then ECP will distribute those disclosure statements.

c. All CCi schools to be sold (with the exception of ECP) remain on a new student enrollment freeze until Wednesday, July 9. There is a separate process in place for ECP. A new student enrollment freeze began last week at ECP at the direction of the Higher Learning Commission. That enrollment freeze continues until HLC permits a restart of new student enrollments following review of the USDOE/CCi Operating Agreement. We are in daily communication with HLC to expedite this process. We are permitted to recruit new students up until the signing of the enrollment agreement.

  1. In the meantime, it remains business as usual at the College with no interruptions in services to our students. I remain confident of a positive sale outcome for the College. You and I know that ECP’s best days lie ahead and together we will leave a legacy on the other side of this transition. So please keep the faith--in yourself, in each other and the in students you serve so very well.

  2. Finally, here is a link to an article that should give every U.S. citizen pause in a media environment otherwise saturated with negative stories.

Email wreaks of desperation and bs. Amazing how these crooks refuse to back off until sold or closed for good.

This is the best WSJ could do? Everyone with a brain knows if you violate terms of a contract or agreement your money train goes off the tracks. Any federal agreement I've ever seen required: documents to be retained for x number of years, documents to be produced or available to be reviewed if requested AND the penalties always includeed stopping the money train if the terms are violated.

I currently work as an adjunct for Everest Online. I used to work for Everest College Phoenix (ECP). ECP was a much more serious school than Everest Online. They had higher expectations for their students, and the students learned a lot in their first class, Strategies for Success (at least the 25% who passed learned a lot). It doesn't surprise me that ECP faculty have received clear communication from their management whereas Everest Online adjuncts have heard nothing specific about their school.

CCI never got due process if you read the article. "Keep in mind that Corinthian has been found guilty of nothing." How about this one? "Most of the investigations involve trumped-up charges of misleading job placement rates, which federal law requires for-profits—but not public and nonprofit colleges—to document and disclose. But here's the rub: There's no standard definition of "job placement."

So if a law doesn't give you a standard definition that how do you know you are meeting the requirement? If you were smart you could ask yourself why for-profits are held to a higher standard than public or non-profit since they all receive federal aid monies.
