Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Started with 129 students and end with 32

I started the term with 129 students. At the end of the term I will only have 39 students who pass the course "assuming" some of those do work in week 12 and don't get zeros. In reality, I will probably end up with 32 students who pass the course.

Our class schedules for the upcoming term (if there is one) are based mostly on outreach and attrition. It's all about numbers that are not in your control. If a student is unprepared for college, can't read, write, or follow basic instructions, then it's your fault. If you don't do enough harassing to get students to participate in your classes, it's also your fault. You will be punished with no classes. CCI has its priorities wrong.

Sounds like you a doing a hell of a job. If you can pass at least double digits (10 or more) of these brain damaged apes each semester that is Aces! Relax and enjoy the thought they are drownding in fed loans that pay our bills and their failure to learn is theirs alone.

Anonymous16682 - Sounds to me like your class is so boring people don't want to come back even after the FIRST week - you blame admissions, you try and do their job! They bring them in, we teach them and keep them in - Career Services helps place them. Someone dropped the ball - sounds like it was you! I can't even imagine losing/failing 92 students from one class - you sir, are the one that should be dropped!

Anonymous16682- We are poking fun at the administration, who expect that retention should be more then 100%, once you count the reentry students.

I am assuming some people in this thread are just trying to stir the pot. Students have personal responsibility for how well they do in class, grades are earned not given. The fact that admin lets people who cannot read or write into college classes and instructors are supposed to babysit and advisors don't pull students who are not attending out of the class is a joke. I have students still enrolled who have not shown up to class since week 2 or 3. All this time I am entering into Talisma that they are not attending and apparently that is a big waste of time. I am a teacher not a babysitter.

Anonymous 16675 <-- You are damn straight! If student's are doing that poorly in YOUR class - own it! The problem sounds like YOU! Do all of education a favor, find another profession!

Faculty need to put in more effort to retain and teach.

Have you been calling each of the 100 students five or ten times each day? Make sure you record every attempt and every word spoken!
