Didn't lots of these people just get hired on in January? Was this really a smart idea?? Micromanaging at its best!

24834, online isn't going to sell. They are barely limping along. Someone just stated earlier this week some students don't have textbooks. It's the end of WEEK 3!!! And it's ridiculously hard to retain students under normal circumstances. Last term (5 weeks ago) they had 27,000 students. This term it's 16,000. Now they must disclose a possible sale or close. Who wants to sign on knowing that? And let's face it, out of 16,000 students, they are lucky if 10,000 are still participating. It's week 3 after all. They won't make it to a sale. But FT instructors (I am PT adjunct) have major problems. There just aren't Fat instructor jobs out there. This was a unique opportunity for those with only a Master's degree. So why face reality? Reality sucks!
Online will go down with the ship. Some of them fools actually think they are going to be retained when the division gets sold. What a bunch of delusional assholes.
'We' didn't know there were problems. Bob Owens likely did.
I was a PT adjunct. They invited me to apply FT. For a multitude of reasons, I turned down the opportunity. (Mostly because they said it would involve travel Andy husband travels weekly. His income is higher than mine would've been and I have no support to help with my kids overnight.) Afterwards, I felt like I may have missed out on a great opportunity. Clearly that wasn't the case. The sad part is, there are no FT job opportunities out there, for and non profit. So, losing that income will not be easily made up. (BTW, I also got the boot this term. I had 3 classes. All were completely empty. I was glad I didn't get a class full of add/drops, though. I've never had a student come in during add/drop and finish the class.) I now waiting to hear back from a job. I've made it to the final stage, so I think I will make the cut. As soon as I heard about all this, I started my job search. It took me 6 months to get the Everest job. This time was much faster. But I didn't find the job on a job board. I put in a lot of effort looking for this job. Jobs aren't on the boards, necessarily. And the competition for them is stiff. Just keep on keeping on, all!
Yeah, it's a shame, they hired all these people online, to organize us into these "super" pods. PDs, Leads, even Full time faculty.....I was an adjunct who was hired FT in January as well. I kind of think they didn't really believe the govt was going to come down so hard, I think it did come as a bit of a surprise. I feel sorry for all the folks who were hired early in the year and things fell apart. Some of those PDs even moved across the country to take these jobs. :-( And, I have to say, as a FT faculty member, I've never encountered any cynicism or unethical behavior in my work or among my coworkers. Everyone works hard, and has a sincere commitment to helping students. Whatever shenanigans goes on, it happens elsewhere.
24721, I'm an online adjunct. I received one class this semester. I get managed a lot.
ECPO went from 27,000 to 16,000 students. They dumped most of their adjuncts. To my knowledge, all of the deans, associate deans, leads, etc, still all have their jobs. I have no idea who they are managing . . .
You academics - so inefficient! Here at Socle, we work smart, not hard. We have an almost 1:1 ratio of managers to workers! Well, I guess the workers work really hard, but we managers have a lot of...er...meetings that we have to be in. Highly efficient! It's the Socle way!
Because they could, maybe?
