Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Students getting the message

I had 4 online classes scheduled. All had zero students. The PD is running around thinking there will be adds during add/drop and then late starts and minis. These people are delusional. Meanwhile they add more categories in Talisma to use. Idiots. I expect layoffs to occur any day.

Bigger class sizes = less instructors = lay offs

Let Student Services,Program Leads and Directors make the calls, and have the instructors teach

Probably the late start and mini classes will all go to FT instructors anyway?

I have only had a couple of students add in the few years I have been with Everest. And not one ever did any work

And was dropped. Trying to motivate 30 students in week 2 to get 2 weeks worth of work done is an uphill, losing battle.

If adjunct pay has been cut, no one has told me. It doesn't matter anyway. I have 3 classes - all empty. So I guess I am making zero.

I have never had a class fill with late starts so I post the announcements and check once a week to see if there are students after I work on the classes that are filled and that's it. As for this week I have 2 classes one is running right now and I expect the other to close in Week 3.

I am doubtful that students will sign up for late starts or mini's with everything that is going on, but I also think this is contingent upon what branch of CCI you work for as some have a better reputation than others.

I thought they cut adjunct pay already a few hundred dollars? Right?? By increasing class size, that cuts it down even more.

@21051: It would be your Program Director and they would be happy to have one less to have to worry about. I'm not trying to be mean but that's the situation they are in....too many idle workers and not knowing what happens next.

There are regular 12 week classes, 10 week late starts (start two weeks into term and have two double weeks), and mini sessions (12 weeks into 6 weeks). They are banking on late and minis since regular classes are not filling up. But I don't think these will pan out like they hope either - unless they can visit enough prisons and homeless shelters to sign 'students' up.

What do you mean late start? Are they expecting adjuncts to sit around for the term, waiting for classes to fill? If I have zero students by Monday, I'm not checking anymore. That's cool. Seems like there are plenty of adjuncts who need the students.

I have thought about just emailing my resignation. But I don't know who to resign to. Who is in charge? I have heard nothing from anyone but that email from Jack M. It's crickets out there!

Their lowest pay is to adjuncts. We make nothing and they know it. Then they increase class size and clearly a lot of us are out of a job. But ai am laughing inside. Because without students and adjuncts, where's the work for everyone else?!?! There isn't any. So, thanks management, for forcing us out of jobs without even a word! And best of luck to you when your job search starts next week!! Go management!!

Who decided to increase class size? Was that to reduce pay to adjuncts? Because, while that leaves fewer adjuncts to pay, it leaves department heads very free to manage the few adjuncts left. Who gets fired first?!?! Well, how many managers does it take to manage an almost empty department? I bet they are all running around trying to look as busy as possible now. I am starting to be glad ai don't have classes. I was defending my job and my company for weeks. But, now I just don't want to teach anymore here. Particularly after being treated so poorly by our supposed leaders and directors. They will be leading and directing themselves right out the door next!!!

Ditto me. And 2 are required classes. And judging from earlier posts, they've hiked up class size to 30 or 35 and people are saying they had 4 classes but only one or none filled. I don't know how they fill classes, but my section number are less than 10. Again, it's a required class. So, if they can't fill 10 sections, that's a real problem. But, if they don't start filling classes, mid level managers will be first to go - by Monday. They can't afford to keep unnecessary staff. And too many cooks in the kitchen. Adjuncts just don't get classes, but those who manage adjuncts have no adjuncts to manage!

About time these 'students' respond to something. If I get students in my courses, I will do their required outreach and if I get someone on the phone, I will tell them the truth about what's going on with the place.

Yup the PLs and PDs they hired are twiddling their thumbs since they can't badger faculty with ridiculous demands. Soon they'll be asking faculty to call up all of the students that previously failednto convince them to re-enroll. This will extend the sales mentality they have instilled in faculty due to the excessive outreach. Every student, every day...hahahaha.

They hired all these needless Program Leads and Directors...do nothing but micromanage and pressure faculty to insanity with numbers and outreach. They are deadwood and need to go now.
