Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

We need to unionize

I wonder how many team members would seriously consider unionizing. Working conditions at Target has been getting worse every year. In addition to taking away/reducing health benefits they're also under staffing as well. Over working their employees while at the same time making team members feel like we're not performing well. I just don't see this culture changing with out the employees doing something about it, the company would be more than happy to increase its profit at the expense of its employees.

I was told the maximum severance for non-exempt was one year for every year of service up to 12 years - so only 12 weeks TOTAL even if you have been with the company for over 20 years. I guess this just depends on who you ask since no HRBP or HRM can actually give you the same answer. If I had the option to join a Union right now believe me - I would!

Well think about this the temp strategy is on the increase and no job is safe. Strength in numbers and with the assistance of lawyers I don't see how it's a bad thing having a union. The anti union video is basically a brain washing tool for the weak minded. I want you to ask yourself and ask around. How many people who work for target actually make it to retirement? How many people have been employed by target and have been fired or quit? Just remember when you get laid off your going to get one weeks pay for every year at target and not 55 million like the former ceo. 42

You will not be fired if you try to bring in a Union. HQ will swarm the place, you will have to attend meetings about Unions, but no one will be fired. 3802 is on their second attempt in 2 years to bring a union into their building. After hearing about logistics and security losing jobs, i'm sure all team members will be more willing to vote for a union. Let's face it none of our jobs are safe, especially if they are merit based!!!!

Just remember if you can prove they went after you, and fire you. You got a good lawsuit. Best thing to do is get yourself out in the open, then you might even be untouchable. Just remember the actors that appear to be Target employees in the Anti-Union video. Is actors that is actually part of an union. Funny huh!

I wish something could be done soon . I am a team lead and comes Sept when Plano takes over our sales floor work load we will no longer be needed . But I'm sure by next year we will be laid off.

That'd be borderline impossible - just think about the quality of our resources and their ability to organize anything.

Everyone is too afraid of losing their job if management hear about it, they implied as much in their anti-union video that they forced us to watch. It's too difficult to start a union.
