Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

In case some of you are not aware, the MAJORITY of the states that host Univ of Phoenix require that UOP have an office in that state.

Most states require that a college conducting business in their state have atleast one office with staff. Therefore the idea that all campuses are closing and that everyone is getting laid off. That is false. However, the push to online is significant and more campuses will be consolidated.

@@9338 (campus layoffs), your analysis is mostly correct--for now. Little will happen without grassroots action--which has happened yet. When University of Phoenix alumni, students, and ethical workers organize against the school's most egregious behaviors, something can be done.

you sound like Camden kid et. al ...the gainful employment act is not going to happen. Don't hold your breath..lobbyist are too savvy and for profit pockets too deep. I think the government needs to respond to people criticizing for profits but I don't think they genuinely want to change anything. Big government is threatened when any company competes with them in size and wealth so they step in and impose some minimal rules and policies but nothing really changes.

You should probably read the Gainful Emploment Act. Having a physical office in the state of business is no longer required after May 27. This was probably put in place on purpose to encourage for profits to close down locations and save money.
