Marck managers want hear that you are going to want to stay forever loyal to Merck, this is super tuper important to the middle mgrs, not sure about execs. Look around, many folks are around for a decade or more, most of the promotions go to folks who are with us for many many years. Yet, it's interesting to see how this impacts transitions, e.g., from position (sales) into an inside position. If you are trying to get a job with us, makes sure to be careful and look for promises made by managers who are hiring vs. your district managers...In my case, none of them kept her promises. This pisses people off and is number one reason why people leave Merck. I am not aware of any layoffs, RIFs, or firings on a significantly large scale. Yes, some people get an ax occasionally, but mostly based on performance, at least in my gorup.
