Community Colleges

Community Colleges ruin people's lives too. Same deal, and sometimes the numbers are actually larger. There are too many CC students with $$$ in student debt, mostly living expenses, with little to show for it. You know, some students need many classes just to get up to college level.

Here in AZ the community colleges have a cap they will allow a student to use with their with student loans. Once a student has borrowed over $20k the community colleges won't let them take out loan funding their at that level. It's an institutional guideline. I think it's great! They are being mindful of aggregate limits and allowing a student room to finish their bachelors elsewhere. Unlike Everest where you can max out your loans term after term, even if you are continuously failing, and then reach aggregate limit and have not even an associates degree to show for $57k worth of student loans. Why hasn't the DOE cracked down on their SAP policy and the fact that people can continue financially and reapply year after year without earning hardly any credits. Disgusting. Tax payer dollars so these "students" can be in "school". Waste

Here in Cali its almost free, how can something like that harm you? Living expenses? You would have to pay that anyway...

G- The level of debt is too high, even if the tuition is "low."

Your post doesn't make a lot of sense. How are living expenses the fault of the CCs? And how is the remedial level of students the fault of CCs? Either way, the cost of tuition isn't even close, and I seriously doubt anybody's life gets ruined because of a couple semesters at a CC and the $5-6K tuition expense.

There are plenty of non-profit universities with separate for-profit arms that model the for-profits. Southern New Hampshire University is one example that is following the for-profits down the wrong path.

So what's your point? Corporations like CCi are the most egregious and predatory. I'll work on community colleges when the most predatory schools make dramatic reforms.
