Thread regarding L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. layoffs

Teamcenter/SAP

Can anyone give me insight into your SAP/Teamcenter implementation? Our division is getting pushed to use Teamcenter (apparently it's a corp standard) even though we know of other divisions that use other products.

I've heard the CSW encompass implementation was way over run (north of $120M, estimate was originally $60), what I don't know if it's actually working now that you are 8 months into go live.

Sounds to me a lot of jobs could have been saved with that extra $60M. Worse yet, there is talk of hosting the CSW solution at our site!

Any feedback would be approeciated.

Good luck to all tomorrow.

i will agree that I am a dik, no doubt about that - i am far from arrogant though, experienced yes, but to say that csw is so unique that it needs completely custom software is pretty ridiculous - because frankly the development skills available just arent there, you cant clone 5 people 10 times over and have that as your team. TC and SAP both are extremely flexible systems, if they are configured right, otherwise I doubt they would be around.

I am no newbie and I know alot more about in house software than I want to get into on this waste of time site, the complete irony is that it is highly likely that I put quite a few hours into developing one of those legacy systems you are praising and who said I still work there?

here is some sage wisdom, why don't you just play the game, shut up and do whatever your manager wants you to do, using whatever tools you have available - not like you have a vested interest other than income, because with an opinion like yours the landscape would be completely different than it is

let me guess your one of those cool newbies from ATK or some other crap hole that had no in house software so SAP seemed like a great thing, it does not work for a proto-house that CSW still is, it was created for manufacturing, REAL manufacturing (millions of parts) then it works fine as long as you do not change things on the line. None of the new people wanted to learn how to use the programs we had in place so they trashed it, good job (Moring). Your right it was not a free system, but I'm pretty sure that for 150 mil + they could have rewritten the software we had, get rid of the ancient cobalt system, and generally been seamless. The real dip shits are the ones that decided to go live and not just test it with a pilot program - was that you? You sound like the kind of a dick that is running that place into the ground with your arrogance. Oh and F*** YOU

couple of notable points, if it is hosted at your site, it isnt bad, that means you arent going anywhere, unless you work in scheduling or purchasing then more than likely your job isnt worth anything anyways unless you work at some small family hardware store...cost is relative because the legacy systems werent free...screw corporate, guess we can do our own thing and figure out how to share information? go live was 10 months ago and success is relative, if you hate your wife, your marriage isnt going to work too well either is it

hey 7731 sap isnt a trend, they didnt start in a garage last year and our legacy apps weren't that great, it took a team of developers to manage and maintain the 20 years worth of requests that were implemented. Your statement about smart enough is a bit short sided as well, and with what department, the same IT people that were doing that job as well, how do you port a mainframe...was that system free of initial, hardware and maintenance costs...why dont you quit whining and realize that more than likely you have a job that is so advanced that you are replaced by a system and that is the message management needs to hear - not that my people cant do their job, but that their job is now done by a computer. I don't think csw is the first site to implement sap...hard to fathom why it isnt successful when the majority of people, who allegedly could care less whether they lose their jobs working for such a crappy company, hate the system so much.

Team Center, SAP and Dora the explorer all have a map. Dora is the only one that is going to find her way. Any more questions?

Team Center, SAP and Blue's Clues all have a "help" section. Blue is the only one that is going to figure it out. Any more questions?

At least Dora and Blue turned a profit.

I know several "consultants" making a fortune off of companies that were trendy enough to dump what they had and pour all the extra $$$ they had laying around into SAP, BTW Suckfactors is also a SAP division, wow, talk about putting all of your rotten eggs in one basket. DO NOT SWITCH OVER TO SAP!!!! But, if you are forced too, cash in on it like all the good folks at CSW who are now working as SAP "experts". It's a joke we had homegrown software that was wonderful, it worked and it was easy to learn, surely some smart person could have ported it over to a newer operating system for a fraction of what this garbage costs. Also, CSW wishes it was only $120 mil.....of course now we just bury the extra cost onto what programs are left...

EnCompass and EmPower are a joke. The consultants made out like bandits and L-3 is left dumping $$$ into a hole--surely the consultants are still getting paid to 'fix' the messes.

dammmmm, it was only $60 and they spent $120M what a mismanagement of resources!! No wonder they are getting rid of people.

But where did the other $59,999,940 go?
