2014 Downsizing at Hertz

I think we were hit from all sides in 2013, however I heard that in 2014 the focus will be on the IT group and that downsizing will affect them the most. Apparently there are redundancies in this high cost area and management will look into reorganizing the IT group and moving people round. Folks who are not moved will be let go. Just my 2 cents, I heard this rumor from two separate sources so I'd probably say it's fairly accurate. We've done it here at Hertz before and I do not see reason why it's not going to happen again. However, the issue is not in excess resources, we have incompetent managers that do not know how to lead. Once they are pushed to the wall they react by coming up with different excuses.

The former CEO is Hertz financial problems. He bought a dream collection of cars, built a new corporate headquarters in Florida, did not turn in finance statements for 3 years, He down sized and did not take care of the car fleet and did not allow customer service to be at its best.

2013 saw a ton of growth in the NY region. For the first time in my decade at HTZ, offices were properly staffed and there was a real focus on top-line growth, account acquisitions and even expansion into the "on demand" market with Hertz 24/7.

2014 saw the company start dialing back; first by canceling the 24/7 program, then by downsizing HLE staffing.

2015, the NY Zone basically called it quits on the whole growth thing. Offices are closed down for the first time since 2009 and Area Managers are basically sicced on location managers and subordinates. If you can't sell you can't stay, leadership skills be damned. Not to mention vehicles with 60-70k are in fleet, more pressure is put on managers to keep those dilapidated cars looking as good as they can.

It starts at the top. HTZ is going backwards. Utile your employees, don't deride and demean them. At this rate, they'll concede all HLE business to Enterprise soon enough.

I think 2015 will be a bad year, 2014 was an OK year
