Pharmaceutical industry is pretty bad overall. There is simply no respect as professionals from customers like there was ten or twenty years ago (golden years). Merck and others devalued the worth of representatives by having multiple representatives cover each physician. This created a major overload that caused physicians and hospitals to shut down their doors to us, we were way to pushy and were consuming too much time. Merck THE leaders in multiple representative coverage of individual doctors - it worked well for a while and then things went south. So, Merck is certainly the most overstaffed and will have to cut deeper. Layoffs will continue, thousands will be cut, and the whole industry will suffer.
